Man Arrested For Allegedly Shooting Realistic Toy Gun

“I don’t tend to take things lying down, so I went past the parents, and so I walked straight over and I confronted him,” said Leni Calas. “I mean, he’s brandishing a firearm and I don’t care if that firearm is plastic. That’s unacceptable.”

He remained in custody Wednesday evening, on charges of reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor, resisting arrest, and possession of an illegal BB gun

To give credit where it's due, I imagine hitting a power line is a fairly difficult shot. Overall, though, I'd say he got what he deserved.

This happens more often than you think. I'm an engineer with the local power company and I see reports several times a year of attempt at copper theft. Some "smarter" thieves think they can cut out a substation transformer ground conductor. They don't realize that there is ground current due to imbalance. As soon as they make their first cut, a potential develops across the two pieces of wire. The next time they touch it that part of their body vaporizes.

As to this genius in the article. He had a 50/50 chance. He could have shot down the source side of the span of conductor thus de-energizing the downed conductor. Dang... 50/50.

As an after thought... I wonder why the system protection didn't operate during the ground fault. No blown fuse, no recloser operation. Must be an area with high earth impedance. Just bad luck... with an unhealthy mix of stupid
