I like Google maps, and use it all the time. I turned the location history off a long time ago.

A GPS operates by comparing timing signals from various satellites and calculating a position. The satellite does NOT know where the GPS receivers are located.

If you're using a GPS-capable phone with Google maps, however, then yes, Google knows your current position at all times, as well as the destination you entered.

If you're insanely paranoid, use a paper map.
