Alot of ones you have posted as illegal are listed as legal on the cities list. You might want to PM Doc (sohighlyunlikely) he is the one that created the cities list. Ellisville for one just banned OC it goes into effect on the 16th. You have to watch how you look them up on sullivan publications, even though you have the city on the left side of the screen, if you type in weapons or firearms it pulls up other cities ordinances. Has happened to more than one person already, alot of what you posted is wrong unless in the last week every muni has passed new weapons ordinances.

Hi Verd,

I thank you for taking on the task of a state list as the last one Com-Sec did has become way out of date. When I get time I will confer your list with my STL and STC lists. but I can tell you that
i believe you are incorrect on stating OC is legal in St John,

SECTION 210.150: FIREARMS -- GENERALLY

B. Openly Carrying Firearms. It shall be unlawful for any person to openly carry any firearm readily capable of lethal use within the corporate limits of the City of St. John.

Doc

P.S. Just at a glance I can see you need to show that both University City and St Louis as illegal to OC.

If that's the case there are significant errors, NKC, for example is well known not to be 2A compliant.

You are correct. I was looking at Sec 210.160 instead of 210.150. I'll update that.

And you are correct as of University City and St. Louis. I posted the Municode list before I was 100% completed with it, sorry for the confusion and thanks for reminding me.

EDIT: Also, I know that some codes that are online are not perfectly up to date. Just thought it would be nice to have a listing set up for all the cities that are supported through Sullivan and Municode.

Ellisville just banned open carry it takes effect September 16th. You have their current ordinance but after the 16th it will no longer be legal to OC in Ellisville.

I think each state needs to have a law that states that any local ordinance that is not posted online in a manner that is standardized and easy to locate is not a legitimate law. It is f***ing ridiculous that it is so hard to figure out the laws. They want to tell us that ignorance of the law is no excuse. Well I say obscure posting of local ordinances SHOULD be an excuse. It is extremely outside the bounds of fairness to expect citizens to know all the nuances of the law, especially when LEO's are so incredibly ignorant and it is their JOB to enforce the law.

Something has to give. I think an initiative to bring fairness to availability of the law is way over due. Does anyone know the initiative process? I can look it up and do this myself, but it would helpful to hear the voice of experience if possible. Let the anti-ignorance initiative start here.

We have MANY people wondering where it is and is not legal to OC in Missouri. Any chance we could get this to be made stickied and I will update it, every night if need be, whenever someone gives a cite that an additional city allows or bans OC.

Problem being you would have to check each muni at least once a week to keep up with new laws. I like your dedication but that would border on insane. What we need is enough people to volunteer that we could split the state up into manageable sections, and each person would keep that section of the state updated. Or we get preemption and not have to worry about it.:shocker:

I, and others, are trying to get SB680 to pass (i.e. OC preemtion).

And it would be a dedication, but I'm willing to at least check with Sullivan and Muni as often as needed.

A statewide 'heat map' would be easier for most folks to understand. Meaning, that a area that is 'hot' (red) would indicate that OC is a no-no. STL would be a large 'hot spot'. This would reduce the need to check every city frequently. The vast majority of the state would be green/blue, OC not banned. Yellow for the OC w/CCW permit.

Most folks who OC probably already know this, but this may help folks who wish to OC but do not due to the patchwork that is OC banned/not banned.

The visual would point folks to research only those cities based on area instead of trying to determine where the city is with respect to their travels.
