I've lived in Missoula for almost 3 years now, and loving MT more every day. A little background on me.
I was born/raised in Elmore, AL, and graduated HS in 1992. Finished college in '95, and met my lovely wife later that year. We married in 1996, and moved to Tacoma, WA in 2003. In 2006, she decided it was time to come home, and we moved back here to her hometown. I've worked in the security field for years, and now work for a local manufacturer of golf bags/push carts. The area reminds me of my rural home in Elmore County, and I love the fact I have a shooting range only 30 miutes away. So far, everyone I've met is friendly, with the exception of a few college kids from another state.
I just submitted my CCW application, and just waiting on it to come back. I'm only doing it as a "just in case". When I found out you didn't need a CCW for a vehicle, plus the OC, I figured "Why bother". Wife convinced me to do it to put her mind at ease.
What really blew my mind was the OC here. Alabama doesn't allow it, and I rarely carried in Washington because I worked at a casino with a high vehicle theft rate and a "No Weapons" policy(it was on Tribal Land). I'll admit, I was a little nervous at first, but after getting a few thumbs up from local business owners, it's not so bad. Haven't experienced any negative from LEOs yet, either. As others have stated, be polite, and keep the hands where they can see them. Most people will listen to reason if you come off like a human being and not a putz.
