My brother lives in Scottsdale and has recently renewed his interest in shooting and plinking. He is looking for places for him and his son to go shooting in the desert or surrounding area. Are there some places he can drive his car to and be able to shoot?

Do those show any of the well known wildcat ranges, or just the formal and controlled ones?

Word of caution about "wildcat" ranges. Cities around metro Phoenix have been annexing land all over the place and you could be inside a city limit and not even know it.

Buckeye in the last few years has gone nuts and a while back Buckeye PD was actively looking for people shooting out in the desert, but within the new city limits, and writing $400 tickets in lieu of a felony arrest.

That's something we've been very careful about with the ranges listed at arizonagunowners.com. We list informal as well as formal ranges and put a fair amount of effort into checking on who owns the land they're located on. Most are National Forest or BLM land that can't be annexed by a city.
