I am not certain how to break this to you without starting a ruckus..

However,

That is NOT A "TOY."

VERY nice. Congratulations! Very pretty, looking forward to seeing it at one of the meets. OK, Dave, you know as well as I do that when we say "toy" on here, it's "tongue in cheek"! We all know very well these are not "toys!" Cut the newbie some slack, already!

Look at definition 3.

toy

noun (plural toys)
Definition:

1. thing to play with: something meant to be played with, especially by children

2. replica: a replica of a real object, used for playing with or as an ornament

3. something enjoyable to use: a belonging that gives the owner pleasure to use
He showed us his latest toy, a new DVD player.

4. miniature breed: an animal, especially a dog, that is a miniature version of another animal ( used before nouns )
a toy poodle

5. something unimportant: something of little value or importance

6. U.S. somebody whose emotions are played with: somebody whose feelings and emotions are treated as unimportant ( informal )

7. Southern U.S. shooter marble: a marble used as a shooter

Since you didn't answer my question, I'll assume you were serious.

Here's the harsh truth, imho.

1) You're old
2) You've made no attempt to keep up with current colloquialisms
3) You're being preachy and judgmental, by chastising the OP's language choice. Language you clearly do not understand.

If you want to understand how language, phrases, and sayings change over time, just do a google image search for "my new toy." (in quotes).

http://www.google.com/images?q="my ...source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1374&bih=1295

Look at the SERPs. Page 1: Bike frame, rifle, car, computer, camera lens, guitar, etc. Page 2: pretty much the same. Page 3: ditto. No actual toys appear until page 4.

In other words, it is common, in THIS day and age, for grown men to call a new object that is hobby related, and brings a sense of fun when used, a "new toy."

Welcome to 2011. Try to lighten up a bit.

Oh, and when someone has to predicate a statement by saying something like "I don't mean to be offensive." Or "I'm not trying to start a ruckus." Or "I don't mean to be a jerk."

It usually means that they are trying to be offensive, they are trying to start a ruckus, or are trying to be a jerk. They KNOW IT, or they wouldn't throw out some halfhearted, pansy, disclaimer.

Want to "break it to him" without starting a ruckus? Then send him a PM instead of chastising him in public.

This isn't a ruckus, this is just my $.08 (inflation's a killer ya know).

;)
