nervousness

Hello all of my fellow oc'ers out there. Why does it feel like you are going to get harassed by the cops in durham when you are oc'ing , or is it just me. I feel my life is more important to my family and I than to chance it on that one time that could be my last or change my life forever.

That feeling isn't just local to Durham. I live in Concord, and all the cops I've ran into around here have been pretty OC friendly, but I still always have that feeling that I'm going to get harassed by one every time I see an LEO. I think the reason for it is that is this: Most LEOs are aware of the general laws behind OC and a lot of them even have respect for it. I had an LEO tell me one time that he'd rather see somebody be able to defend themselves, than to end up a victim. And that the cops are almost never going to be there when you need them, just afterwards. BUT, that uneasy feeling comes from knowing that there are those out there that don't know the laws about OCing, and there are those out there that would do everything in their power to make life very difficult for those that do OC. I think there are a lot less nowadays than there used to be, but all it takes is one to ruin your day or week for arresting you on bogus charges that'll never stick. I've been fortunate and haven't had a run in with any LEOs like this. Infact, an older friend of mine that I ride with is retired from the Sheriffs Department and carries right along with me whenever we're on the bikes. If you think carrying in a store around LEO's can be nerve wracking, try riding a motorcycle during a Nascar race down a road filled with hundreds of LEO's where everybody is already looking at you cause you're on a bike lol.

I would be suprised if anyone was not nervous the first few months of OC'ing, I know I was. I have been fortunate that I have not had any bad encounters with any LEO, the few times I have been around them while OC'ing they just walk on past though I have read enough stories that bad encounters can and do happen and am prepared in the even it does happen to me. Make sure you know the law, know your rights, and have a recorder on you.
