Have been to a lot of my usual places to visit while OC'ing: Home Depot, Walmart, Barnes &Noble, 5 Guys. No problems at any of those.
I have also recently been to two different Washoe County Library branches. I go to pick up audio books to listen to while I'm at work (truck driver). Went last week to a branch I don't frequent, so had my pistol locked up.( It's near a school so didn't want to push my luck that someone would SWAT me.) Saw the "Firearms Prohibited" stickers and took a pic. An employee noticed me and asked if anything was wrong. Had a nice discussion pointing out preemption and the idea the the NRS listed only prohibits concealed Firearms. She was not aware of the difference in restrictions so I was happy to provide some information for the benefit of future visitors.
I went today to a branch that I visit almost weekly, while OC'ing. Nothing was said to me while inside, but after I used the automated kiosk to check out, an employee followed me out the front doors, also marked with incomplete NRS "Firearms Prohibited" info, and pointedly looked at all the posting on the glass doors. I watched her search for and stop on the NRS info. I was 15 feet away at that point, but asked if there was an issue and if she had any questions/ comments. She ignored me and went back inside. I went to my vehicle and departed. Did not chose to cause a scene or confrontation.
I will continue to carry the NV OC pamphlet in my vehicle and possibly ask to discuss OC with the head person at that branch the next time I visit.

^ Will do. The Spanish Springs branch is open tomorrow, but I'll be back to work, so it may be a while before I can get back there to discuss the matter with management.
We'll make progress, even if its slow and relatively painless.

I have carried at the Centennial Hills Library a few times with no issue, they have signs posted as well. I did carry at teh DMV a few months ago, no expedited service because of the system they put in place to check in but no issues while in there either. Carrying at parks with no issues as well. At the park though I have women asking me about carrying and what they need to do. Other than the no interactions, I think educating people to carrying is the second best part of it.

Stopped at the U.S. Bank inside of the Smith's on the corner of Desert Inn and Decatur to cash a check. I'm inside that store a couple of times a week; the bankers are cool and the grocery store clerks have never said a word. Next to the Work Boot Warehouse on Sahara at Torrey Pines. Nice female clerk helped me and was friendly and attentive.

Then to Sprouts market on Rainbow and Flamingo. I went in to grab one item, and as I turned away from the shelves to head for the checkout, there were two male store employees blocking my way. One said, "We have a no firearms policy."

Me: "Just to be clear, do you have a no firearms policy or a no visible firearms policy?"
Employee: "It's a no firearms policy."
Me: "So if a customer is carrying a concealed weapon, that's against your policy as well?"
Employee: "Well... it's not like we're going to search all of our customers."
Me: "Exactly. So if I just pull my shirt out and cover my gun then it's ok?"
Employee: "No, because I've already seen it."
Me: "How about if I go outside, pull my shirt out to cover it, and then come back in?"
Employee: "No, like I said..."
Me: "Ok, what if I go outside, put the gun in my car, and then come back inside?"
Employee: "That would be fine."
Me: "Mmm hmm, so I'll go put it in my car and pull my shirt out..."
Employee "No, you don't have to pull your shirt out if you do that."
Me (wondering if he's figured out yet what a pointless suggestion he's agreeing to): "Yes, I know. So tell me, are there any other of my rights that you discriminate against that I should be aware of?"
Employee: "I'm not discriminating against anything. It's just a store policy."
Me: "Oh I know that you aren't personally doing anything. You are speaking to me as a representative of this company, and that's what I'm referring to. I understand that this is private property and you can make up just about any rule that you want. So what I'm asking is: do you have any other rules that violate my basic rights as an American citizen?"
Employee: "Uh..."
Me (thinking maybe I've made my point): "Don't worry about it, I'm just going to pay for this item and then go."
Employee: "Ok."

Next to Walmart for some ammo for an upcoming class. As I was walking in the entrance, an older Latino gentleman was walking out the exit. As we passed each other, he nodded towards my holster and said, "That's good, man. God bless you." That gave me a nice smile following the ridiculous encounter at Sprouts.

I walked straight back to the sporting goods section and waited a couple of minutes for a clerk to arrive. While waiting I saw that there were a couple of 100-round boxes of Winchester white box behind the glass, which was just what I needed. A clerk finally came and asked me what I needed. I said ammo and he went off somewhere to get the keys.

When he came back he asked, "What's that you've got there?"
Me: "What I've got where?"
Him: "Your gun."
Me: "It's a Glock 19."
Then he made mention of the two magazines on my left hip. "You sure carry a lot."
Me: "Fifty-two rounds. I work armed security and I carry the same amount on and off the job."
Him: "Well if you need fifty rounds then you sure went to the wrong place."
Me: "You do realize that innocent people have been killed inside of Walmarts, right?"
Him: "Oh yeah, sure, I just mean..."
Me: "So if I'm not safe in a Walmart, or a restaurant, or a church, or a college, then where exactly is a 'right' place?"
Him: "Hey I'm on the same side" Then he pulled out his wallet and showed me an NRA membership card. "We're not even allowed to carry at work. I just mean if someone is coming at you with fifty rounds of ammo... *shrug* ..."
Me: "If someone is coming at me with fifty rounds of ammo, then I want more than that."

Then he rang up my purchase, I thanked him and I left. I know that with the shooting in Oregon a few days ago that guns ore on everyone's mind, but after living in Las Vegas for almost fifteen years, those were two of the strangest conversations about open carry that I have had here.

(BTW, during both conversations I was calm and smiling and being polite)

Doin' some shopping.

I was picking up some stuff to make the kids dinner when approached by a young lady. She asked me if my firearm was a toy, or perhaps a BB or squirt gun. Then she said "no, it's real isn't it?" She then said she wanted to stick near me in case there was trouble and laughed. I told her that what she needed to do was get one and carry it herself. That was the end of it and she moved off.

Well, you tried. Hopefully she reflects a bit and won't brush it off with nary a consideration.:)

As a side note: why would I carry a toy, BB gun, or squirt gun? I got the same kinds of comments when I first began to OC. Hmm..

....and asked do you know what this mean, it means that I have passed a background check. She turned and the look on her softened as she did get what I was telling her. I told her if you see a non-uniformed person carrying a open firearm he may not be a cop however in order to have a gun and legally carry it that person cannot be a felon.

Well when you explain it that way - I have not really thought about it like that either - especially how general perceptions from some might think another way - been a long while since we lived on that side of the tracks. Very good point!

My wife shops at spouts too. Same story, there are some things she wants that she can't get elsewhere. We go to the one on Trop normally as she talked with the manager and he told her that he would not ask people to leave that didn't look like a thug.. She also goes to the one on Stephanie and has never had a problem though I'm sure someday she will.

So I'm curious. Since sprouts didn't want you there. Why did you buy from them?

STEVE. Even though I thought LOS VAGEN story as good, and he handled it well. Why he gave them money. My response is you don't want me if you don't let me protect myself

LOS VAGEN , I thought you acquainting it to discrimination was right on the mark. Please follow up the food chain and find out if their store policy is to discriminate

All Sprouts are anti-gun as far as I'm aware...which is why I won't shop there. Same goes for IKEA. Although they do have some pretty cool stuff in there, I just refuse to give them one cent of mine out of principle. They are mamby pamby bed wetters.

Pleasant exchange with an inner-city gentleman today. I'm doing some commercial electrical work in the laundry room of a rundown apartment building in the morning shadow of Stupak's phallacy. I've got my Springfield XD-S tucked into my pants (Clip Draw) while I work. The guys hanging out outside are friendly (it's the middle of the day, so the trouble-makers are mostly not around), and on one trip to the truck for parts he jokingly remarks: "Hey, Man, you ain't gotta pack heat around here; this is the friendliest part of the city." I remarked that I carry everywhere and not to take it personally. He laughed and said something compatriotic, so I included that it's people like he and I that keep these neighborhoods friendly, and he agreed with a smile, and we went on about our business.

Interesting grocery trip to Smiths. Saw an elderly gentleman with a MKIII sized pepper spray (or OC to use LE types) on his belt alone.

After loudly suggesting to another customer in a quite unsolicited manner, a 'Bro' in his early twenties, suggested that I get a CCW. I replied I had one. His response was along the lines that I was doing it wrong and conceal. Being the quiet type I am, I didn't suggest that he cover up his 'guns' and put on a shirt with sleeves. He walked off and made a faux-pick up on a 70 year old woman.

The deli counter guy and I had a good talk about guns. Nothing unusual at all to him (and anyone else).

I did carry concealed at the movie theater today (ha ha Regal Cinemas!). Not going back to a theater except for Star Wars or something similarly huge. No reason to get gouged and deal with the other complaints I have with them.

No issues OCing at the Paseo Verde library yesterday. Heard the nice genealogy folks whispering about me when I went away after their little tour-offer 'ambush'.

Is Regal Cinemas there doing bag/backpack checks like our local one here is? My daughter and I went to see The Martian. Ours is not posted at the doors and I concealed. My daughter held her bag open for the ticket-taker to look in her bag and we walked in. My daughter commented, "That was dumb!" I heartily agreed. But at least they aren't posting no weapons/firearms signs!
Think they are more concerned with stopping contraband (purchased elsewhere) popcorn and candy.

Other than that it is wasted security theatrics.

No, or at least not anymore, but the one I went to was inside a casino.

Had a tiff over reserved seats (someone was sitting in mine--a whole family in a row--so I sat nearby). This couple freaked out over the seats. I then moved to a seat in the handicapped row all by myself. So glad they had reserved seats for all 10 people in there! In retrospect, I should have picked a spot better hidden from the door in case some nutjob came in. As for the movie, it was pretty good, but lacked the visuals I was hoping for. I strongly recommend the book for science/space nerds.

I too get asked why I carry two extra magazines. I got asked by an off-duty Metro detective a few months back why I was carrying so much ammo. He was being sarcastic and condescending I have a standard reply for such questions. I told them I have done a lot of studying and research and have read many stories over the years were many people have died trying to save their life because the villain had one more bullet than they did. And reading all those stories I never read one self defense story where the guy that successfully defended himself said I sure wished I have not brought all that extra ammo.
