The funny thing about all of the LEO stops previously is that although I was obviously stopped for the openly carried sidearm, not a single stop had me actually disarm!

Most asked for ID but other than that, it was "have a nice day" and I was on my way.

I haven't been stopped in a long time now. And haven't heard any complaints from other people in the restaurants and stores.

Just yesterday I was in a West Marine store getting an obscure boat electrical part and the manager mentioned that I couldn't have my sidearm in the store. I told him I'd go back out and put a shirt on if he would like. He just shook his head and said "don't shoot anybody". I told him I'd give it my best shot.

Perhaps West Marine does have a gun policy but I wasn't aware of it so no harm, no foul.

The checkout girl said the manager was in a bad mood as they were closing the store soon.

Good on you to maintain your sense of humor. That manager, or anyone close enough to see/hear
might always remember that it was "the gun guy" who had the cooler head and better demeanor. ;)

The West Marine store at 700 S Tamiami Trl, Punta Gorda, FL 33950 is closing. This closure is part of a broader restructuring and bankruptcy process affecting the retailer, with specific reports indicating the shuttering of stores in Southwest Florida, including locations in Bonita Springs and Punta Gorda.
