I am 19 and I have my LTHC, but i was talking to my dad about it and he said I had to be 21 to carry even though I have the permit. ( its like having a license for a car but not legally allowed to drive for 2 years after you get it.) I know you have to be 21 to BUY one from a FFL and the ammunition for it. But for private sales it is 18 for weapons and ammunition. So what is the DEFINITIVE age? I would love to know so i do not get into any trouble with the law.

Welcome to the forum bansheex29.

Moved this to the Indiana sub-forum as the question(s) is state specific.

Not sure I understand why you are asking. If you already have a permit, then wouldn't you agree it was legal?

IF your interpretation and understanding of the law is correct, your father is wrong. You assert that an individual may legally sell you a handgun. If this is the case, and you have a license to carry, you're good to go.

btw, if you haven't already learned it, don't ask the police for their reading of laws, except for informational purposes. They're not your lawyer, and have no fiduciary responsibility to you. If they're incorrect, what recourse do you have?

The same goes for things said on this website - verify the information and opinions offered.
