My older GP doc works in a facility where the facility is run in a tyrannical fashion by an narrowly focused office manager who 'has always done it this way' Clara Barton era mentality. They have no phone, no weapons, no firearms, no food\drink posted all posted on a 8.5x11 sheet on the sign in window... not on the door ~ sigh! I open holster there but there might be a time or two when during an ad hoc exam, a bug pops into the exam equation...a smile just crosses his face and he continues with the exam...
When we meet, the 30-45 minutes are spent discussing a myriad of topics, from my health to general social concerns, to a topic he brought up ~ prepping!!

address your concerns to the doc as well as the office manager. One hopes the doc sees your note... just saying.

clara barton, office manger, and i have tangled previously and my physician, when told of my discussion, warned me ms barton had been known to immediately disassociate patients from the medical group w/cause and he said her power was absolute as all she had to do is send a registered letter to me and i am looking for a new provider...after he popped my eyes back in there sockets, i said thanks!

i decided, discretion would win so i might enjoy a fight later...

Went to Fredericksburg area for Turkey and rest of weekend. On the way back Sunday afternoon, wife and I stopped at Fashion Square Mall in Charlotttesville. I see no C'ville specific thread so I choose to put it here.

All was under light cover while approaching doors to check for signs and such. Seeing none my sidearm came out into the light.

In there for an 90 minutes or so, passing the mall security on at least several occasions. No comment, questions or even mean looks. From their appearance and general demeanor it appeared they did not even notice.

IMHO its a bit difficult to miss a 5906 in a pancake holster if you look, and not at all difficult to see. Personally saw no others open. There were 3 gents that looked like they were printing but not sure.

Visited a place called Easter Island in Lynchburg a bit north of Mall area. Was in there 5-10 minutes. Passed by and acknowledged a lady customer there a time or 2. Side note-- if you need a watch battery or jewelry for someone, go there.

I was waiting on the manager to ring up a watch battery he had put in and the older lady asked if it was a real gun. The way she did it made it was clear she had not noticed prior. I advised her it was real and she asked (concernedly) if I had a permit. Advised her in Va none was necessary for open carry (she became real concerned appearing) and told her if it was a big matter I had one from Va, Ga and Fl.

Conversation spread to include 2 other women and 1 man in the register area and all seemed approving. Just before I left I asked the initial lady that if I was going to rob her or someone else or the store or everyone, would I have my weapon out on my belt for the world to see?

Almost looked like a light went on in her head. I feel it was a good encounter.

Been OCing around the Burg with no issues as usual. After church a few weeks ago some friends of ours recommended a new place for lunch (Fifth and Federal Station). They had just dined there the night before with a group of fellow doctors and were ready to eat there again the very next day. I OCed as usual and enjoyed the brisket meal I ordered. Other than that I can't think of any new places we've visited, but there have been a few that aren't regular spots (Bull's Steakhouse, Chik-Fil-A on Wards Rd, a small Mexican place in the Timberlake area, and a couple others.)

Last night as I was picking up some food for dinner at the Kroger's on Timberlake a young man employee asked me about my sidearm and we discussed guns a little bit. He was not yet old enough to get a CHP, so I made sure he was aware of his ability to OC here in VA. He was aware, but as of yet did not have the funds to procure a sidearm of his own. We chatted a bit more and I made him aware of VCDL, but didn't think about mentioning OCDO (likely because there is so little traffic here these days now that OC is pretty common).

Having seen some hubbub on Facebook recently about Zoe's Kitchen restaurants in other parts of the Commonwealth putting up No Guns signs, I figured I'd swing by ours to see if they had one too and check their hours for a return in the case they did not. The wife and I have eaten there from time to time in the couple years they've been open and never had the first issue with an OCed sidearm and the food has been pretty good and the people friendly. Unfortunately as I pulled up to check the hours I noticed a No Guns sign, but it was not at the door, or just inside the door, but placed on an interior side wall so one would have to get out of the car, go inside the door, and likely get in line to order before seeing it. It seemed intended to create the most hassle possible for gun owners as opposed to being up front that they don't wish to serve those who wish to simply protect themselves and go about in peace. I finally got a chance to send a comment via Zoe's Kitchen's website (www.zoeskitchen.com) yesterday or the day before so I'm still waiting to hear if I get a response. It is only one small place in a sea of restaurants, but I hate to see any place deny peaceable folks the ability to carry a sidearm to respond to deadly threats just to have a meal.

Go back. See the manager. Tell him what I call the 4. His sign, your permit, sidearm and back as you leave. Tell him you will make it a point to advise all you know to not visit his place and discourage all and any you discuss local restaurants with not to go there.

Tell him you will post it to several local gun related websites advising all to not go there and you will check back every month or 2 to see if that policy is in effect and sign is up. If he takes it down you will encourage all to go there, but if its up its a no go place for lots of locals.

I did that with an Applebys in Ga. I posted a link to the corporate customer service email and from what I saw they got about 1500 emails in the next 3 days or so. The sign was down about 6 months later. I commended the manager and he advised he was surprised when he got the call to take it down. He was also pleased as he hinted he carried routinely himself.

What Nemo said. I would add that you post this location on www.friendorfoe.us and inform the manager by showing it to them on your smartphone. Also point out the numerous other places that are gun friendly. Alternatively, invite him/her to post it themselves.

These places want gun owners' business; they just don't want their guns. "You are welcome to spend your money in here, just leave THAT outside."

I wear pants everywhere I go. If I have pants on I have a sidearm. Standard is open and rarely covered. Been many places here in Lburg with no issues.

Will continue to do that and if I get a request to leave or see a sign I ask for the manager and show him the 4. See above for details.

Side note-- if you go to the mall, the mall doors by the Jo Anns fabrics has a sign. But the TJ Maxx right next to it does not have signs on their doors. Thats where I always go in.

Side note 2-- The Macys store there has been closed and reportedly Liberty Univ. has bought the building. I get through LU to get back to 460 on occasion but they are a rather welcoming campus.

Last night the wife and I tried out Beer 88, a burger place over in Wyndhurst that has been there a year or two, but it was our first time there. Their advertising point is that they have 88 beers available, but they carry the 88 theme across the pricing of everything for cleverness. Neither of us had any beer, but we did have some tasty burgers, a couple tasty soft pretzels, and some other goodies that were just right. Pricing was reasonable and they had no issue at all with my OCed sidearm.

In recent weeks we have also tried out La Fogata Mexican over in Wyndhurst a couple times as well and the food was quite tasty. The place has been there about 10 years, but we always just passed it by for whatever reason or another. I now regret not going because it's a pleasant little mom and pop place, that like most other spots in Lynchburg, have no problems at all with pleasant people OCing as friends of mine here also confirm. We'll happily go back!

Otherwise just about everyplace I go I OC and have no issue at all and I'm happy to report that Lynchburg continues to be a pretty pleasant and welcoming place to be.

On a low point, as we went through Wyndhurst last night we figured we could either try out Beer 88 for burgers or Fire & Hops Taphouse (a new pizza place) for dinner. We swung by Fire & Hops Taphouse first to see if they had any negative signage and surely enough they did. At the front door in about 6" light letters they had "No Firearms or Other Weapons Permitted on Premises", so it was clear they were just as proud of their anti-self defense stance as anything else they offer. I wasn't particularly surprised since the place is allegedly run by the same group that runs Waterstone Pizza downtown, which is where a customer shot himself at their bar a year after they put up their first No Guns sign. In any event, it's the one place in Wyndhurst to avoid. I may drop them a line sharing my disappointment, but when you already know that your No Guns signs don't keep out people not intending to do harm, you're just stuck on stupid for the fun of it, so I don't have any expectation of change.

ya'll need to hold an open group gaggle OC gathering at one of the hospitable eating establishment(s) in the area (Mexican one sounded quite inviting) to invite other like minded folk in 'the area' to meet and greet.

That's not a bad idea, I don't guess. I used to schedule them a few times a year, but after the first few it just got to be me and 2 of my coworkers who I could have lunch or dinner with any day of the week, despite having plenty of other OCers here in the Burg.

Maybe we can get a couple more to go and among us make some type of an impression on the economic validity of their sign.

As to the M&G, you organize the first one and I will be there (clear date with me first), most likely along with wife. She would not be real conducive to me getting it started the first or 2nd time but after than I can do some also. Maybe a revolving set up among the attendees?

The family and I were in the area playing tourist recently, no issues.

Wife and I ate at Goldies on Rt 29 (Wards Rd) south of Lynchburg. Great food and the lady there was super nice. OC'd and had a few other dinner's look but never said anything. I asked the waitress about getting a to go order for later on and she noticed my P89 on my side. She asked if I was a LO told her nope just carry'd all the time she said oh nice and that was it. Like I said great food and good portions will go back there again. Most of the small diners along Rt 29 are very open to OC. I travel Rt 29 south all the time from Charlottesville to Danville.
