This weekend standing in the checkout line at Wal-Mart a young lady behind us say excuse me and I said yes. My daughter has a question for you. I said ok no problem. The little girl asks why do you carry a gun? I said in Nevada it is legal for a person that can legally have a gun to carry. I won’t go into detail of the whole conversation. Basically assuring her people that legally carry are the good guys. Her mom agrees and says I know I feel safer with him and his gun here. The little girl’s name was Skylar and she is 10 years old. She shook my hand I told her I was glad she asked and thanked her mom for doing a good job of parenting.

That has happened to you twice while I was with you. You must have a calming look to the younguns.

No response and good responses to open carry in Las Vegas

Hello all, I am new here.
Filling up gas yesterday when a friendly face noticed my carry and commented positively. Told me I should check this place out.
I have been open carrying for a month now, and I have been compiling a list of places I have open carried.

I have frequented the following places/businesses without anyone saying anything or possibly not noticed as open carrying to receive a response to my carry:

Gas stations (going in to pay then standing at the pump to fill):
Smiths Gas Station @ Flamingo & Sandhill
Chevron @ Blue Diamond & Dean Martin

Retail Stores:
Best Buy @ 215 & Rainbow
Big 5 Sporting Goods @ Maryland & Sahara
Target @ Blue Diamond & Decatur

Food Locations:
Quedoba @ Rainbow & 215
Thai Room Restaurant @ Pecos & Tropicana
El Tinajon @ Flamingo & Sandhill

Grocery Stores:
Smiths @ Southern Highlands
Smiths @ Flamingo & Sandhill

Town Square:
Gameworks
Miller Ale House
Yard House

-----

So far, I have had two events where someone noticed and made comments so far:
Chevron @ Southern Highlands Pkwy & Valley View - Positive comment, introduced me to this website.
Panda Express @ Flamingo & Pecos - Positive comment, attempted to identify the gun, positive back and forth conversation about guns for a minute.

Interesting enough, the two comment events happened yesterday and today (Chevron yesterday, Panda today).

Anyone tried open carry in the police stations since the State Preemption law was changed to give it more teeth? I have not been there since, but just saw a live newscast out front of Metro HQ and the "no weapons" sign is still being displayed on the front doors. ?????
Not a direct visit to a 'cop shop' recently, but an interaction via FB messenger with Community Relations of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
My message:
In light of Sheriff Allen's comments on RGJ.com 6/21/16 regarding "Question 1", when can I expect the WCSO to remove the "No Firearms Allowed in Building" sign near the front doors of your building? He said, "I am equally committed to protecting your rights and freedoms as citizens of Nevada and the United States." Is NRS 202.3673(3)(b) not a valid law to Sheriff Allen in regard to rights under the Constitution of the State of Nevada? Maybe SB175 is not valid to Sheriff Allen. Section 8, NRS 244.364 gives the LEGISLATURE "EXCLUSIVE DOMAIN" in setting regulations regarding firearms, and "....any other law, regulation, rule or ordinance to the contrary is null and void."
NRS 244.365 goes on to say "and any such ordinance or regulation that is posted within the county must be
removed."
All of that seems very clear to me. It is my expectation that actions will immediately be taken to remove the offending signage.
Please pass this message to all appropriate offices. I will also be contacting the Office of Professional Integrity directly regarding this matter.

The most recent response from that office: (I'm willing to post all previous and future correspondence if you're interested)

"Facebook is a limited public forum and designed to communicate with the public by answering general questions, notifying the public about any safety concerns, and providing outreach information. Through our social media, all we can do is point you to NRS code 202.3673 where the places you can and cannot carry firearms are specified. Those laws are passed by the Nevada Legislature and we do not control them. If you have an issue with the Nevada Revised Statute, we would invite you to contact the Legislature directly. If you feel the Sheriff's Office is not in compliance with NRS, you are welcome to open a case with the Office of Professional Integrity and they will investigate your inquiry."

In my opinion, they seem to be willing to force a lawsuit in order for any real action to be taken.

I do plan to directly contact the Legislature and make them aware of WCSO responses.

Ignorant Sheriff's Office: "...all we can do is point you to NRS code 202.3673 where the places you can and cannot carry firearms are specified..."

So are they really so ignorant they didn't understand the difference, or are they just trying to stonewall you?

In Clark County, we've actually been told that they understand the difference, but they have badges and we don't, so F off.

Good luck with that. They, the legs, have been useless to us down here. Fiore, Shelton etc. Ones who wrote the bill have been silent and ignored requests for help. I hope you do better.

Not sure if remember those encounters however I have a parent once or twice a year tell their child ask him (me). I have not posted them however this mom and little girl impressed me. My wife was also very impressed by them. I try to present myself as a confident and approachable gun owner. Does that have anything to do with it? I have no idea.

More than likely they haven't noticed at Town Square - there are plenty of stories of people being told to leave or be trespassed by security for open carrying at Town Square. (Some are in this thread if I recall correctly.) Just giving you a heads up.

I figured as much, anyone else OC at Town Square lately? I searched through the thread and other websites that indicate most of these stories are from over 1 year ago, a lot of them are 2010-2012.

It's under the same management and security as back then still so I can't imagine this has changed. I just don't go there and if required for work or a special event obligation, cc it is!

went to grab some bacon wrapped hotdogs at dirt dogs (rainbow & wigwam) with my g20 fully exposed in all its glory.

since it is a LA born and moved to NV establishment i thought i would get the boot. The guy working there was from LA and had some questions about OC and laws regarding it. answered all his questions devoured a red and a green dog with garlic fries and a soda finished off with a homemade churro and ice cream with horchata syrup. Glad they didnt mind as its right down the street from my house and its bacon wrapped hot dogs...

That is a healthy markup, even for Nathan's dogs - presume the final product is worth it. Would like to try one.

Off topic - we have bacon donuts on the east coast - trust me they are fantastic.

I spent most of the last two weeks up north (for me) in White Pine County. I carried my Kimber 1911 everywhere. I had no problems in several trips to hardware stores, restaurants, and several different bars, including inside casinos/hotels, for beers. Only one bar, on my second trip, had the bartender tell me nicely that a patron complained and I could either take it to the car or give it to her while I was there (my first clue that she was an idiot.) So my friend called the bar's owner, his ex-GF from high school, and we settled it right then and there that it was not a problem. It was then confirmed that the bartender had not even received a complaint, and was acting on her own.

The only other person who acted like an idiot; you know the type: puts his hands in the air like it's an f'ing joke after you've been talking to him for twenty minutes and he FINALLY notices the big gun on your hip; well, he was an ex-cop who retired up there...

Sounds typical. BTW, sorry about that one bar that turned out not to be real.

Again I was approached and thanked for exercising my 2A right and open carrying.
This time it was in the Albertsons in Henderson on Lake Mead Prkwy/Boulder Hwy.
It kind of takes me by suprise because I just feel like I'm not doing anything special.
Either way. I thank them back and continue what I'm doing.

Carried in Sweet Tomatoes Restaurant near Galleria Mall. No problems. Employee/Manager(?) greeted us and expressed his appreciation of the 2A right and right to carry.
An older couple asked questions about my gun then expressed the opinion that "in this day and age everyone should carry".
Went into a couple of stores, no issues. Big Lots and .99 Store.

OC'd at Golden Corral and had a very interesting conversation with the manager.
Manager: Excuse me. I don't mean to interrupt your dinner but I noticed you carrying and if you don't mind I'd like to ask you a question?
Me: Sure...no problem
Manager: Three weeks ago I asked 3 detectives who were in here about carrying in my car. They told me that it was ok as long as I had my blue card and a permit. Is that correct?
Me: I'm sorry ma'am but that is incorrect information that they gave you. (So I proceeded to tell her the correct info regarding the blue card and the CCW permit)
Manager: OK thank you.For some reason I had a feeling that what they were saying was wrong. I just wanted to make sure since I see that you carry.
Me: What made you think that the info they gave you was wrong?
Manager: They kept looking at each other like they were unsure.
WOW! JUST WOW! So then I proceeded to inform her about Question 1 on the ballot (which she knew nothing about) and hopefully got one more NO on ONE!!!!

That's a good story about taking an opportunity to educate someone after giving some great advice!

I spotted an OCer up here in Sparks at Pah Rah park this evening. Looked like a little picnic and games with his family. Anyone here?

Open carry today first at America First Credit union on Durango near Sunset, sign outside said to take off sunglasses and hat for security reasons. I walked in with my cowboy hat on and my prescription glasses, which auto, darken outside. As I walked in there was a very young looking armed security guard standing at the door. I looked at him smiled and said how are you doing. He said well however you do need to remove your hat. I said ok I can do that. He was on my strong side and got a good look at my firearm however not a word about it. The counter person was very friendly and had no issues. Then at my wife’s favorite bead store Discount Beads on Durango near Flamingo never an issue, however they know my wife and accustomed to seeing me.
Then to Red Wing shoes in Henderson Eastern at 215. No issues. Lunchtime at JBs just up Eastern, wife and I had a nice lunch I had one of their drafted beers. We were next to a large family when an older gentlemen setting with the family came over to me and thanked me for exercising my right and said we are all safer with you and your firearm here.

Too bad the circumstances aren't such that she'd be able/willing to send a letter to their department asking why members of the public are being lied to by police detectives.

Yes, if you are in uniform and giving grossly inaccurate legal advice*, that is lying. There is no way they are ignorant of the consequences of giving inaccurate information while in their position of authority. We don't expect them to know the answer, but they fully know to keep their mouth shut when they don't.

*Note that this inaccurate legal advice is tantamount to stripping a citizen of her Constitutional rights. If this citizen were robbed, beaten, raped, or killed shortly afterward and documentation/witnesses could verify that her unarmed status was a direct result of this conversation, I would hope a judge/jury would find the lying cops to be personally liable.
