I'm going to the convention on Saturday (taking the bus that Cuccinelli has running from Lorton). I'm thinking about OC'ing.

Is anyone up for some kind of lunch meetup in Richmond on Saturday?

I am planning on it even though the website says no weapons. It it owned by Richmond.. I know VCDL is working on it too.. but I may do it all the same. Ed

On another note I may also carry at the Alexandra waterfront festival even though their website says no as well.

I'm going to the convention. I will take my car, and I will be carrying.

I will also be contacting McDonnell this week and asking him to step up to the plate. If he wants to be pro-gun, and wants to lead this state, he could start out by showing he will do something to ensure citizens aren't trodden upon.

Just got a phone call from one of Cuccinelli's staffers to make sure I was going to attend the convention.

The message was that "they are continuing to work on the 'gun' issue, and are aware that many delegates are coincerned about it."

I'll be OCing, with digital recorder and fresh battery, beginning with the volunteer orientation/training session on Thursday night all the way through the end of the convention.

From there I'm off to the Greek Festival for some food and dancing. I've carried OC there before but AFAIK nobody has ever noticed. They do serve beer & wine, so I've always considered that OC was the only option.

stay safe.

On a side note - I got an invitation to celebrate Bill Bolling's birthday at a hamburger cookout at The Virginia Center at Innsbrook.

Here is the message I sent back:
Dear Carli,

Thanks for the invitation to "Burgers with Bill" at the Virginia Center on June 15th, 2008 (sic). Of course I'm thinking you had a typo there and it really is scheduled for 6/15/09.

I refuse to attend this event. Bill Bolling and the Republican Party of Virginiahave been aware formany years that Innsbrook has a "no firearms" policy and that scheduling events there deprives members of the RPV of our right to keep and bear arms for self defense. It appears that repeated requests to schedule events at some other venue continue to be ignored.

As long as Bill Bolling infringes on my rights by selecting venues that prohibit the peaceful and lawful bearing of firearms I will refuse to participate in any event he holds, and will withhold my financial support. I will also explain to my friends and fellow Republicans why they too should withhold their supportfrom Bill Bolling.

Sincerely,

skidmark
I hope someone "gets" the message.

I totally missed the lunch meet-up part of the OP.

Besides the food concessions inside (overpriced & tasteless) there is not much in the immediate area. Several blocks south is Broad Street, but most of the lunch places are closed over the weekend. Same with places to the north & east around MCV Campus (which has its own issues re OC).

We may be better off thinking of a dinner meetup, unless someone is attending the gala at the hotel. There are many good places that are OC-friendly and there will not be any rush to get back for a floor vote.

stay safe.

I just threw the lunch idea out there as a suggestion since I figured everyone would probably be eating somewhere mid-day.

I have no idea what the eating options are in/around the coliseum since I've never been there.

I'm glad that is on their radar. Telling me they support the Second Amendment but that I can't exercise it during the convention is unacceptable.

Their continuing to work on the gun issue is meaningless fence sitting.

The Coliseum is city property - state preemption - end of story.

You needed to pre-register in order to be a delegate and be seated as such. Guests are welcome.

THere may be a $10 "suggested" fee for guests; I'm not clear on that.

According to the RPV, they will be collecting the $10 guest fee from folks who want to sit upstairs and watch the folks on the ground level mill around and wave posters (no sticks allowed:uhoh:).

If you are a supporter/fan of Cuccinelli you can contact his operation - they are looking for all sorts of volunteers Friday & Saturday - counters, runners, babysitters, gofers of all sizes & varieties.

stay safe.

I just got off the phone with my souper-seekret RPV contact.

Allison Cokie (sp?), who is the RPV Executive Director, and Pat Mullins, who is the Acting RPV Chairman, have been in touch by letter and by phone with folks at City Parks & Rec, and the property management firm in attempts to get the firearms issue clarified [meaning understand that state preemption law is the controlling factor] and ensure thatboth are aware of the Norfolk Waterside decision and the legal basis for that ruling.

While there is nothing absolute that can be pointed to, it seems that Parks & Rec and the property management firm are now informed that they have no legal leg to stand on if they try to enforce the "no firearms" policy.

Anyone who wants to check with Allison or Pat on the status of progress during the weekcan call them at 780-0111.

Y'all better behave. Grapeshot & I are Sergeants, whatever the heck they is at a convention.

Seeing as we will be OC-ing, I guess we is Sergeants at Arms no matter what.

We have training on Thursday evening, so should know how the Colliseum will react by then. Stay tuned for reports and/or pleas for bail money.

I may need a few folks to form an armed entourage to escort my souper-seekret contact to the concession stands for lunch and/or the restrooms. Anyone want to volunteer? We'll coordinate via PM and maybe set up radio channels (FMRS/GMS or whatever it's called).

stay safe.
