I submitted an application for a permit to assemble on the Capitol Square as an OPEN CARRY Rally. It's designated as an Act of Peaceful Civil Disobedience.

The Capitol Police-- not Madison-- called today to make time changes and let me know I need to provide the podium and the Public Address system. Nothing else was mentioned.

BELEAVE ME, If this is turned down because of guns there will be some REALLY pi--ed off people. NOT A GOOD THING!!!

I'm already letting the media know what is going on.

THIS EVENT WILL HAPPEN!!!!!!!

I know. But when Doyle recently said he was going to propose a repeal of the 1995 bill so that places like Madison and Milwaukee could make their own gun laws he admitted Madison's preempted law was bogus!

What I really want to know is how much lower the murder rate is in Madison. Seems, last I heard there were more murders last year than in several years before-- by KNIVES.

No matter what you do with gun laws- the bad will carry while the good guys will suck it up!
There have been more murders yes, but the most disturbing thing was not long ago there were ALOT of muggings and sexual assaults. People were being robbed nearly every night for quite a while and it got so bad the guardian angels patrolled the streets. When you watch those freaks with red berets marching around the already socialist enclave of Madison it is pretty funny.

That law banning the bearing of arms is not constitutional, which means it is not the law. They have gotten away with it on the books for years and have probably never even charged anyone for it, most likely they would just go for disorderly conduct I think which can be just about anything.

I would like to know if rifles will be a problem, or is it going to be sidearms only for this gathering?

If the permit is denied couldnt we go and do laps around the Capitol. That would not be an assembly or would it?

This is a SIDE ARM event. While the RIFLE is great, our greatest concern is the carrying of a SIDE arm.

I will NOT ever be carrying a rifle, in the city, to defend myself, and SELF DEFENSE, in the city, is what this is about!

Understood thanks for answering my question, I will gladly attend with a sidearm.

I would almost always choose to have a rifle over a pistol, that is why open and carry is a million times better than having just CCW in my opinion. However I do understand carrying a rifle around Madison might send a scary message to the sheeple there.

Right, best course of action is to have relatively nicely dressed serious bu smiley people with modern secure holsters and modern handguns show up, make reasonable comments, and go home with little fanfare.

Thanks Mike, That IS the idea. This is about real folks, in real cities fending off real aggressors.

Our ultimate goal is a concealed carry provision. THAT is the best to protect EVERYONE

That is great, as long as we do not compromise or trade our right to open carry for concealed carry.

On the other hand if you really want to force the issue a bunch of people marching around with rifles would certainly bring up some debate of CCW being allowed. Maybe that could be a last resort if all else fails kind of thing.

No, it really would confuse the issue and be counter productive tocarry long guns at such an event - not to mention raise public safety issues as muzzles from rifles point up toward higher floors of city buildings where there is no holster with trigger guard, etc.

We just won a huge victory in Heller in that the court said its not good enough to have the right to carry long guns in your home, you have to have the right to carry handguns because they are the quintesential self defense weapon and you can call 911 withon hand while holding the assailent at bay with the other, etc.

keep it simple - focus on open carry rights being infringed by the school zone and car carry bans - these bans also would impact any future concealed carry privilege thatt the legislature might pass, so let's focus on the current and real infringments to the right to carry in Wiscosnin right now - the school zone and car cary bans.

PLEASE, NO long guns! Don't put me in a spot where I will want to pull this event if because I WILL if I feel this event is being hi-jacked.

If someone wants to do long guns do it with an event other than OPEN CARRY.

I and my Second Amendment Sisters, http://www.2asisters.org, are sponsoring this. Self Defense is our agenda. This is vital!

PLEASE respect my wishes. I'm really sticking my neck out here. Don't hand our enemies the hatchet.

Of course I totally respect your wishes, that is why I asked.

I meant in the future possibly, if they continue to ignore the fact it is very hard to carry with the school zone and vehicle laws that could be a last resort option, I really dont know. An event with long guns other than open carry I dont quite get but your meaning came through clear that this gathering is handguns only.

I have other questions like do you want any flags or signs, or is that the kind of fanfare you do not want? Also is there a problem with any certain types of holsters? Sorry for all the silly questions but this will be a first for me.

Thank you very much for doing this, I honestly cannot thank you enough. If there is anything I can do to help please let me know.

In reference to the city ofMadison's carry law;

I was reading over at Glocktalk.com a few weeks back, there is an active Madison Police officer that posts there under "MadCityCop", hehad argued that the Carry law was enforceable because it was still in the books no matter what the A-G stated.

He was vehemently arguing that Madison law trumped state law and if he saw someone O-C, he would arrest and charge them, He would not listen to anybody about this at all. (typical) How many other cops from different city'shave the same attitude and have not been enlightened yet?

Then he posted that the department sent out a memo to officers that the law is now not to be enforced. So the police department is up to date for our right to carry in Madison.

Thethread can be found here, http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1043159I had a fun few days reading through it.

I thought the "expanding bulletstatute" was found to be bogus decades ago. Then they allegedly tried to outlaw FMJ's.

Candace, Thank you for joining us in OCDO. Do you have any plans to carry in or around Sauk or the other city with the outdated carrylaws?

Thanks guys. I assume you are all guys. lol

I DO plan on carrying in Sauk/Prairie once I get a decent holster. The one I have is a joke. I paid 29 bucks and that's what I got! A new one ison order from Galco that is $80 and should be much more stable.

As for the type of holster- that is not an issue as long as your gun is secure and won't fall out. We are pushing the envelope to begin with so basically a holster is a holster.

SIGNS- YES. This is a rally not a "march, or parade". We will be on the grounds outside the Cap. building at the intersection with MLKjr Blvd. I know we cannot block pedestrian traffic. I'm thinking some signs saying "Peaceful open carry is legal in WI" to pin on our backs could help us walk from the parking garages to the Rally site. We need to tell people the truth.

We need to watch our language. Nothing offensive even if we ARE very frusrated at WI insane gun laws.

Beyond that I'm open to suggestion.

I should add that I have a 6x2 foot banner that says "Second Amendment Sisters". You biker guys wear your colors, the rest of us should look dignified in our own ways. We just must remember the gun must be visible. That's why an 'open carry only' law is nonfunctional in WI's cold winters!

More info will be presented after I talk to the Cap. cops.

I have never carried in Sauk or Prairie du Sac but I have in Baraboo and other places in the area for a few years off and on. They have some ordinance on the books about it up here too but I was told it would not be enforced by the police chief. Same from the Sheriff and DA, that was maybe 5 years ago but I think it is still in the ordinances. The one here dealt with public buildings or public places being off limits. I would give the Sauk Prairie PD a call just to make sure nothing bad happens, I did it because of the ordinance issue and I didnt wanna get shot by accident lol.

Yeah good holsters can be expensive mine was around $90, but I am very happy with it. Galco makes very good stuff from what I have seen, I am sure you will be pleased.

It's amazing how many unenforced and unenforceable laws remain on the books. Yours is good info, MJ. Thanks for the input.

Will it be possible to walk to the rally point from the parking areas, or will we have to keep the firearm in a case till we get there? If so will we have an area to keep them?
