I understand it may be a moot point, and I also recognize this is a Private Property issue. However, got somewhere I frequent, I would like some sort of response, even if it's "take your business elsewhere." I choose my battles wisely, this one is a slight flight of fancy. I don't expect them to say "Yes, open carry without malice or issue here." I simply want to know why when the sign states what is does is all.
As I'm working @ the South Hill Mall today, I took it upon myself to wander towards the management office and wander myself inside. I introduced myself and brought along the wording of their sign. I also informed them I understood it was private property and was just looking for clarification as OC is legal per the letter of the law (Quoted RCW here) and I was confused as to why we were asked to leave. The receptionist passed me off to the Operations Manager, David (Pronounced DaVeed)
We spoke for a few moment about how he is the Acting Owner this week as the Property Owner is out of town. He informed me that Larry, the Security Chief would have an answer. However, Larry was unable to be found. Guess who they brought me? That's right friends and neighbors, the SAME security guard who asked us to leave in the first place. We sat down and had a GREAT conversation. Too bad 2A lost this one.
I read the daily reports and no less than 14 (FOURTEEN) people called the security office to report 2 MWAG. I was stunned by this number. In a little under an hour, 14 people called that they were not feeling safe just because 2 men (accompanied by 2 minors and my wife) were making them feel threatened. Here's the long and short of it.
South Hill Mall has a "NO FIREARMS" Policy. I was told if they don't see it, they won't act on it. If you are uncovered or OC, you're history with no questions asked. They are more concerned for the general public and other customers than just 1 person. These were exact words.
Yes, I know it's private property and they have every right. My thinking went IMMEDIATELY towards education. I will be setting up occasional meets in Puyallup at surrounding Starbucks locations and other nice areas right near the mall. If people are this freaked out over someone simply walking by, education is lacking. Mayhaps making OC a tad more "normal" in the area.
Anyways, to the OP ... research completed on the mall. I hope this information helps someone and at least we all know where the mall stands now.
I'm confused by your response but that's ok. I'm easily confused.
If it wasn't for the OP, I'd not have gone and OC'd it. It was a worthwhile trip IMHO. I am still semi new to this OC thing, so every little step I learn something on is a plus for me.
First rule of open carrying: dont go around looking for trouble like some ******* with nothing better to do.
Harsh? yeah maybe, but its true. You treat the bearing of arms as if its some game. "Research complete..." is exactly the kind of talk that seperates people like you from people who carry for the right reasons.
Ill be blunt, people like you that go LOOKING for confrontations should be absolutely and utterly ashamed. And you brought your FAMILY with you on your little "research trip"?
Seriously shameful.

Not being a Mall rat, I find this kind of research interesting to me. (nearest mall is 140 miles away) I avoid Seattle at all costs, and only occasionally go to Spokane, but it is still interesting. I have been in the malls in Lynnwood and B'ham and don't remember any problems, but who knows. While I don't advertise, I don't try to conceal either...hard to do with a 6" barrel. Maybe they just think it is one of those leather knife holsters.
Thank you Goose.
Go troll somewhere else.
Talk about zombie thread.
I'll not dignify this with a response "like some ******* with nothing better to do...* like flame someone on an internet chat board at 4am their time. Have a taste of this ...
Also, check your keyboard, I think you're having issues with your ' key (I'll, don't, it's, it's again)
Can you define "trolling" for me? Thanks bud.
You heard that people were getting hassled for carrying at a certain location so you gathered up your wife and CHILDREN and brought them with you just so you could try and get a response out of the people there. Its idiotic, ignorant and irresponsible. You people treat this like some kind of game or hobby and its a huge part of why its so hard for the pro-gun community to be taken seriously and not be looked at like lunatics.
By the way big guy, that last sentence where you were whining about my punctuation.... Its missing a period. Isnt it funny how that works out sometimes?
