BJ's Brewhouse again on Saturday afternoon after the Vintage Military Semi-Auto Rifle match. After a few hours, Sharpshootur joined us. He and I were OC. No issues, as usual. Even the Nutty Brewnette brown ale was back to full flavor and carbonation!

Bummer, but understandable.

My big question is, did you get a refund? You were denied what you paid for.

I got what i came for, I was on my "belly Buster" plate, had I just arrived, I most likely brought the bill up, Since I had been everywhere and eaten the place up, it would have made the OC people look petty to everyone that had been a part of our experience, and I don't think that is worth $25. I also chose to go in there, knowing the political environment. Sometimes it's better to let the "bully" make himself look bad, and I believe this was an opportunity.

Saturday, 10-19-13 @ 2:30 pm, was a successful OC at BJs. I met MAC702 there as agreed. He was accompanied by three others, but were none OCing. When I arrived at the BJs, I texted MAC702 to find out where he was. His instructions were short, sweet, and to the point. It's VERY obvious to me that he has an exceptional sense of direction. When I arrived, he identified me (not hard to miss). We exchanged pleasantries and the conversation was jovial. The group was talking about vintage rifles. Although I'm not very knowledgeable in this area, it was definitely a wonderful experience to learn about the history of old military rifles and their origins. A few pistols were discussed as well (like the C96 which I learned was the pistol that the star wars character Han Solo's laser gun was modeled after). Had the BJs bacon cheeseburger with thin cut fries.

While sitting at the table, both MAC702 and a portley fellow (whom sat on my right), made a few comments about my carry piece. The gentleman on my right made a comment about the size of my weapon of choice. He also made a comment about how he didn't know OC in BJs was accepted. MAC702 confirmed to him that it was. MAC702 commented about my gun describing it as a "plastic gun." I do believe that MAC702 was just...jealous;). He is obviously a proponent of the "metal gun." Furthermore if it were just the two of us, we'd probably have a great debate between the two and a GREAT discussion on firepower. Sure, his had larger rounds (.45 acp I'm sure). However, these "big boy" rounds limit capacity. My weapon, on the other hand, carries those WONDERFUL and AWESOME 9mm rounds! LOL! :D But let's remember everyone that there are in fact TWO ways to increase firepower and each method IS effective although, each method have both pros and cons. Whatever your choice (please no caliber or medal/plastic gun wars here-Colin Noir does an excellent job describing our two types), just make sure that your method is agreeable to you. And that's a rap.

I did get a number of stares, the usual, and a frightened child outside the restaurant as I was walking in. I wanted to stop and console him, letting him know that "bad guys" don't put guns on their hips in plain sight but the "good guys" do (like the police, armed security guards, armored transport (money) guards, etc.). Before I could address him, his father took a defensive posture and hurried his son from me. It's sad when someone does not posses the clairvoyance to distinguish between a dangerous person (a thug for example) and an upstanding, perspicacious, and respectable citizen.:( However, I must point out that the father and child were of African American origin. Martin Luther King, Jr. said during his I have a dream speech that he wanted his children to be judged "not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." But in contrast, this dream works in ALL directions. Slowly but surely, this is becoming a reality. Thanks to MAC702 and his companions for making Dr. King's dream a reality.

After an hour or so, the group dissolved and it was back to our daily lives. It was great to have put a face to the name, and an honor to have met you MAC702! I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of you soon. Perhaps we could all schedule an evening when we could all OC say on the strip perhaps? We'll have to see.

The casino encounter

Hey Don't Tread on Me. Sorry about your mishap with the hotels "finest." I'm appalled over security's lack of situational awareness. I'm even more disappointed over their lack of knowledge and training. Oh well. And don't fret over the tip. Remember that hindsight is always 20/20. All in all, I think you handled yourself very well. Job well done.

2nd and 3rd Saturdays every month. Until last weekend, when I finally OC'd, none of us did, though, even though they may have known where we were coming from. The other guys were the established group before I started going, and I didn't want to be the first to OC and test the restaurant if the group might not have liked the attention. But now I'm established with the group and thought I remembered someone else mentioning OC there, so I finally did it. Now they can expect it every time from at least one of us!

I had asked if Dan was working, but she said it was in a section that wasn't available.

Maybe write a letter to management, asking them if security should have acted the way they did, and also comment that if you had been there to cause problems it would have happened much sooner. Comment on security's lack of awareness of the second firearm even after the confrontation and lack of any follow-through after telling you to leave. Mention that you were being kicked out after paying, and while not yet done, but chose to take the high road regarding the bill. Maybe you'll get something out of it. I would maybe even mention that security's scene caused you to forget the tip. Enclose one and ask that it go to the staff at the buffet. If they are honest, they'll do it and no doubt the staff will remember the situation and that you care, as an obvious good guy.

I was seated against the wall once at the table, but I know he had to have seen mine earlier, as we walked in and got the table together. Maybe next time I'll wear the big stainless .45 revolver with the red, white, and blue grips. At only 2/3 the firepower of the 1911, I still won't feel underarmed...

I had to work Friday night, My work took me and my ride along companion to Sandy Valley. On the way back to town I asked her if she was hungry, and of course she was, so we stopped at the Gold Strike in Jean to get a buffet.

We were both OC, as we walked through the casino encountered no issues, or stares. Stopped at the bathroom to wash our hands, approaching the cashier to pay for the buffet there were no issues. The buffet was not packed as it was about 9:30, but there were several groups of people. and by the time I had procured my first plate, submitted my drink order and visited the carving station, I was sure that most everyone had acknowledged that they were no longer in a "victim" zone.

45 minuets later I was headed back to the table with my "belly Buster" (last plate,) when I observed a discussion between a large black dude and the cashier, I was going to say something to my friend like "looks like theres an anti among us," when my friend told me that a big black guy approached her and asked "is that a pee shooter?" while pointing at her .45. when she said no, he put his hand up (talk to the hand style) and said "that's all you needed to say."

I was working diligently on my belly buster, saving the cup of beef stew for desert, when security arrived. The said to my friend, "are you a Police Officer?" to which my friend replied no. He then said you cannot be in a casino with a firearm. I looked at him like he was crazy and said "excuse me?"
he replied "well uh er this casino." That satisfied me that this establishment did not want to do business with me while carrying a firearm, so I told him that we would go, I did say it was a shame as I was looking forward to that beef stew.

My friend went back and forth asking several questions regarding their offer to lock her gun up for her etc. and then finally said "what about his gun" pointing at my hip. (We had both been strong side out, in the booth.) Neither security guard had noticed my weapon. I grabbed a couple of carrot sticks off my plate and headed towards the exit of the buffet. On the walkout, that was the entire length of the casino we were unaccompanied. The guards had disengaged at the buffet.

Overall there were a couple of things I observed. The casino itself seemed friendlier on a whole, which may constitute progress. There was absolutely no animosity.

I have only one regret. In all the hubbub I had forgotten to leave a tip. I think that would have shown grace under pressure, and have been the best "aftertaste" I could have left, both for the employees who waited on us, and there multitude of locker room stories to follow.

It is owned and operated by MGM. My neighbor until recently was the food and beverage manager there. He now works at New York, New York. Last time I was there, at his invite, there was no problem. All it takes is a loud mouth.

Bummer for you and your partner on the "very clueless" security personnel. I can't believe their situational awareness is so acute...lol (sarcasm)

I am in complete agreement with MAC702. The management at Gold Strike NEED to be made aware of how lackadaisical their security staff is. Fortunately for the hotel, you two were a couple of "good guys." Man, could you imagine if a couple or group of "bad guys" came into the place and "cry havoc"! Talking about letting "...slip the dogs of war!" (phrase from Act 3, Scene 1, line 273 of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar). Their security wouldn't have the slightest idea what was going on nor would they be able to respond effectively. The place is very vulnerable. It shouldn't be.

I would emphasize this point in your letter. Not only is it rude from start to finish, but what was the hand supposed to do, stop the bullets? If you were bad people, wouldn't this rude behavior be the impetus that might start a conflagration?

^ That.

I always wonder what it is that makes these idiots follow a guy with a gun or make a dumb comment like that to a guy with a gun if they are under the impression that a guy with a gun is a dangerous thing. You'd think that if they really felt that way they'd keep quiet and head away from a guy with a gun. Can't fix stupid I guess.

It is a power thing, they don't really think the person is dangerous but they can make a LAC "respect their authority"...this is nothing more than a power trip or even gun envy....wish I could have one at work type of thing.

You may be on to something. As I get older I just keep noticing that most EVERY cause is more about how people are Hell bent on "instilling their will" on others than it has to do with anything else...sadly. How else can you explain opposition to victimless beliefs like gay marriage, tattoos, sagging pants and atheism. No, how dare you not believe that which I believe... :banghead:

...sagging pants ...

I'm not so sure that is always victimless.

Wow, in searching for an example (morbid curiosity), I found that there are cities (not in NV that I know of) that enforce this with penalties up to a year in jail... WTF?

WTF, indeed. I moved to Vegas because I'm a stout believer (and staunch believer too) in "to each their own", although I know it will ultimately lead to chaos, and Vegas is just about the freest place left.

Oh well, back to our regularly scheduled programming...;)
