Was testing some M14 match ammo all morning and found that it really likes the pulled 175-grain Sierra Match Kings from old military M118 ammo. I put them over 39.5 grains of IMR4895, but will do a ladder test with the powder on Friday to confirm if it can't get significantly better than 1.5 MOA. I also discovered that I'm seating them too deeply. I had last used the seating die with some hunting ammo that was seated to the cannelure, and didn't even think to change it before seating the match bullets.

After the range, I went to Boulder Dam Brewing Company in downtown Boulder City. Different staff than my previous visits and still not a single issue, except that my second black & tan wasn't quite as delineated as the first one. Life needs tiny disappointments, I suppose.

You know you sound like a "nerd" if describing weapons and ammo was equal to math and computers...lol

I know I sound the same way when discussing reloading or black powder shooting.

I forgot to mention I have a 1:10" twist. Interestingly, my stepdad's M14, built as an equivalent to a Super Match rifle, has a 1:12" twist and also prefers 175-grain HPBT bullets, though it also shoots 168's almost as well, whereas mine has a more significant preference so far.

I also forgot Saturday's report of a new place. BJ's Brewhouse and Restaurant is a frequent after-match stop for us after the Vintage Military Rifle matches at Desert Sportsman's. I've always wanted to stay OC and test them. No issues, though I don't think many people noticed, as once I was seated in a booth, you couldn't see it. Oh wait, there was an issue. The Nutty Brewnette brown ale was dead flat. So they didn't charge us for it, and I had to settle for the also-very-good Jeremiah Red Ale. English Andy still drank the flat one, ha.

Sorry MAC702 I thought I had mentioned BJs before. Two of us have OCed in the Summerlin one several times with no issues and we usually get seated at a table in the middle of the room.

I went to a different PTs last night right down the street from my new house. It was a weird experience for me because it was pretty busy and I had a few people ask if they could sit next to me, even though there weremplenty of other seats available around the bar. The service was ok, but I wrote a letter to corporate anyway saying that i had a good time and thanking them for respecting my right to lawfully carry.

Impossible! According to Bob Eaton at TGS's state mandated and approved CCW class you'd be arrested for having a gun in Boulder City or North Las Vegas.

Bob would probably poop a brick if he saw me drink a beer, eh?

Catching up...

Hey everyone, SharpShootur here. Just taking a quick minute to catch up with everyone and to see any new spots for OCing. Also, in response to 28kfps:

Welcome to OC dot Org.
The more you OC the more comfortable you will be. We have some very active posters helping us to keep up on the OC laws. Some who spend a lot of time and finance battling the constant destruction of the second Amendment a little piece at a time.

After years of CCing I too had been brain washed into thinking legally OCing was a bad idea. Thinking I was getting good information from some web sites, law enforcement, and BKM CCW instructors (BKM Before Knowing MAC702).

Stumbling on the OC dot org also changed my choice of carrying. I have been OCing 5 or so years.

Thanks for the support. I'm actually looking into getting a CC as well. I just want to be "well rounded."

Also to mp06011999 who wrote:

I strongly suggest that you educate yourself. Here's a great place to start: http://www.leg.state.nv.us/Division/...S/NRS-202.html

While I am happy that you have decided to join us, the last thing you need is to jump in without empowering yourself with knowledge. Trust me, saying that you read it on the internet will do nothing good for you. You need to read and understand the laws. No man can rob you of your knowledge. And also understand that just because you are in the right (lawful) does not mean that you will not be arrested. The gang with badges breaks the law often and openly. Eric Scott anyone?

I'm glad you're here, honestly. Just want you to be prepared. NRS is your Ace in the hole, so to speak. Read it, know it.

...And welcome, once again. :)

And yes mp06011999, I've started reading up on the laws! :D Thank you for giving me the info on the laws so that I can be "armed and dangerous!" ;)

Some of these laws I'm noticing seem to be a bit ambiguous. I'll be asking everyone some questions when I have the time to do so, but right now I'm in need of preparing for work tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, where is that BJ's located? Since it appears to be OC friendly, I'd like to go and give it a whirl. In fact, why don't we all compare our schedules and make it an OC dinning out! That way, we can all meet and put faces to names. We newbies can meet the veterans and vice versa. What does everybody think? I'm game if you are!

West Charleston, north side of the street, just east of I-215.

10840 W Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas, NV ‎
(702) 853-2300

I will be there Saturday afternoon, with my friends from the Vintage Military Rifle match. Sometimes I stay extra long when I have nothing else to do. You can text me at 7o2-578-o552 and I might know when most of the other guys are leaving to free up some space at the table.

I'm also game to other times, as available, but just throwing that out there.

Went to opportunity village today to drop off some stuff and shop a little. Then we went to vegas vapor emporium, and firehouse subs afterwards. Nothing interesting at all other than a good philly

Casino Encounter

I had to work Friday night, My work took me and my ride along companion to Sandy Valley. On the way back to town I asked her if she was hungry, and of course she was, so we stopped at the Gold Strike in Jean to get a buffet.

We were both OC, as we walked through the casino encountered no issues, or stares. Stopped at the bathroom to wash our hands, approaching the cashier to pay for the buffet there were no issues. The buffet was not packed as it was about 9:30, but there were several groups of people. and by the time I had procured my first plate, submitted my drink order and visited the carving station, I was sure that most everyone had acknowledged that they were no longer in a "victim" zone.

45 minuets later I was headed back to the table with my "belly Buster" (last plate,) when I observed a discussion between a large black dude and the cashier, I was going to say something to my friend like "looks like theres an anti among us," when my friend told me that a big black guy approached her and asked "is that a pee shooter?" while pointing at her .45. when she said no, he put his hand up (talk to the hand style) and said "that's all you needed to say."

I was working diligently on my belly buster, saving the cup of beef stew for desert, when security arrived. The said to my friend, "are you a Police Officer?" to which my friend replied no. He then said you cannot be in a casino with a firearm. I looked at him like he was crazy and said "excuse me?"
he replied "well uh er this casino." That satisfied me that this establishment did not want to do business with me while carrying a firearm, so I told him that we would go, I did say it was a shame as I was looking forward to that beef stew.

My friend went back and forth asking several questions regarding their offer to lock her gun up for her etc. and then finally said "what about his gun" pointing at my hip. (We had both been strong side out, in the booth.) Neither security guard had noticed my weapon. I grabbed a couple of carrot sticks off my plate and headed towards the exit of the buffet. On the walkout, that was the entire length of the casino we were unaccompanied. The guards had disengaged at the buffet.

Overall there were a couple of things I observed. The casino itself seemed friendlier on a whole, which may constitute progress. There was absolutely no animosity.

I have only one regret. In all the hubbub I had forgotten to leave a tip. I think that would have shown grace under pressure, and have been the best "aftertaste" I could have left, both for the employees who waited on us, and there multitude of locker room stories to follow.
