Castle Doctrine and Stand Your Ground laws, while closely allied, are generally separate concepts - not directly conected.
I will grant you a difference in legal details only, Otherwise the concept remains the same.: "I have a legal right to be here therefore the government can not insist I be disarmed." In one case it's my property which Iown, so I can tell everyone else they have to leave in the other case its in public or on someone else's property where I have permission.
Do not try to substitute one for the other - the results are sure to be considerably less than satisfactory.

"I just completed my civic duty a few weeks back and sat on a jury in an assault case. Our instructions were very clear, you cannot claim self defense if you initiated the confrontation unless at some point you tried to walk away..."

Jury duty: Good on ya! I'm a little surprised your support for open carry didn't get you excluded. Did the lawyers ask during the pre-screening?
Note: Judicial direction is not necessarily true and does NOT have to be followed by the jury. Yes, I remember reading the booklet and it says otherwise. Yes, these decisions have been unheld, but at an inverse amount +- to how much they publicly announce their disagreement with the judge's instructions. Of course, whatever their decision about how to go about deliberating or which evidence to consider, they can only addressed the charges laid before them. I think I see where he was going with these jury instructions but just because you start a confrontation does not mean you were guilty of either an assault or battery. This has the distinct smell of judicial activism. Failing to run away is not the same as attacking. Ex: "Hey guys! What are you guys doing to that car!?" I think the causal link is illogical. Our culture at large seems to complain about "nobody saw nothing", but the "zero tolerance" policies are punishing the victim more and more. From what I understand, Castle Doctrine codifies common sense and has recently extended recognition of this beyond your own home to anywhere we have a legal right to be. I'll bet this judge has complained more than once about the lack of witnesses willing to testify about crimes.
As usual... never a blanket permit for general douchebagery

Wow. You went a lot of places with this that were not part of the original situation. My post was in reference to post #597 in this thread, and included what little knowledge I have of our legal system. Looking back, perhaps I should have included that post as well instead of only the post that I did include.
Without going in to the details of the case I sat on, Jury Nullification, what you are talking about, and I support as well, never came close to being a factor in this trial. The instructions I briefly mentioned were only one of about forty instructions we were given. Castle doctrine was not an issue, stand your ground was not an issue, and at no time did the judge ever give any indication of dis-satisfaction with anything.
Go back and read post #597. In that specific case, I think the originator of the confrontation would have a huge legal hurdle to clear to claim self defense, stand your ground, or castle doctrine, if the confrontation had escalated to the point of LE involvement.
My posts are not meant to be legal advice in any manner.

I've been to Discount Tire & Alignment, Russell's Appliance, and a few other places in Broken Bow, OK since my last post. No one has said anything, but the tire guy did ask some strange questions about who I worked for as I was paying for my new tires.

Went to Fiesta Mambo in downtown Broken Arrow with the family. Good food and a few knowing looks, but no comments/no problems. Walked around the downtown area for a few minutes, stopped in the bike shop and a resale shop, also no problems.

Went to Charlie's Chicken on Garnett just south of 31st and saw someone else open carrying, also saw someone at Wal-Mart on 71st last night as well. First few I have seen. And wouldn't you know it was the first time I wasn't carrying at all. Was working and on lunch...

Took my daughter for a ride along River Parks trail. Played at the splashpad at 41 for a while, ate a Josh's Snow Cone and rode back to the car. Then drove to the Trek store to look at bicycles. Had a good talk with the young salesman. He was pro carry. All in all, a good day. No problems, no bug eyes, no negatives.

In the county.
Saturday late afternoon I went to the Owasso WalMart Neighborhood Market at E 86th St N and N 129th E Ave to pick up a few things while carrying my nickel-plated S&W Model 37 in a black spring holster worn cross draw. I headed for the items we needed and passed a family with some small children. One of the children, a girl about five years old zeroed in on the shiny little revolver as they walked by, probably because it was at her eye level. A few seconds later, I see her in my peripheral vision to my left matching speed and course with me, her head stretched out parallel to the floor eyes locked on the Model 37. I didn't look at her or say anything, but I couldn't help but smile. Her parents called her away, but no one said anything to me. Being the father of two all grown up girls myself, I imagine she had a dramatic story to tell her siblings and folks. All in all, an uneventful event.

Nice conversation with Cleveland County Sherrif...

Went to Norman yesterday to pick up a puppy for my 10 yr old, and had no idea where I was going. Saw a CCSO parked on the side of the road and stopped to ask directions, (I know, a man asking directions). Without even thinking walked right up to his car, asked directions, and saw him look at my Glock, I offered up my license, he said "No worries, like the Glock". Very professional, we had a good conversation.

Has anyone gone to Sonic since the announcement? I have considered it just to see if I am asked to leave but I don't do controversy well personally.

Was at the Broken Arrow Lowe's yesterday. Passed one of BA's Finest. Talked about some home improvement projects and went our separate ways. Very cordial encounter, definitely a positive.

I hope you were prepared to block her little hand as she made a grab for it. At that age you never know.

OC'd all over the OKC area and only 1 recent encounter worthy of mentioning.
Last week I was fishing with my 2 son's at Lake Stanley Draper. Right about dark we were flagged down by another boater, his boat broke down, for a tow back to the dock. I towed him back and when we got back one of his passengers made mention of my gun and told the boat owner we had an armed escort back to the dock. Other owner and I BS's for a bit and he said he wished he had had his incase he had to spend the night on the water. Made sure he was good to go and handed me some gas money for the tow. That same night as I was securing my boat up on the trailer, under the only working light around, to head home one of the LSD LEOs rolled up on me. Asked about the fishing but no mention of gun yet I could tell she was keeping an eye on it. She eventually drove off.

Open carried at the farmers market on Cherry St. I was there for about 30 mins. Bought some fruits and veggies at three different vendors. No comments, but one of the vendors did notice and stared directly at it for a good 5 seconds. Also went to Walmart, Khols, and Sears, all without incident.
