Last time I was in Seattle I didn't see any "families" in the parks. Unless roving bands of youths wearing the same color bandanas counts as a family. I don't even see families using parks in Boise.

I heard if you hang around Seattle long enough you'll see naked people on bicycles in parks. I heard they weren't prosecuting for it either, even though it's illegal. But if you display your naked firearm in a park.... heaven forbid!

Below is the entire text of a letter I sent to Greg Young at the City of Ferndale about their city parks gun ban. This was shortly after I had successfully asked that they remove a "No-weapons" sign in front of the city library, which had, curiously enough, not been backed by any ordinance. Mr. Young assured me that he would see to taking action to repeal the parks ordinance, but as it has now been over a month it may be doubtful.

I'm thinking a call to follow-up is in order shortly. The Bellingham precedent may be helpful as leverage.

Re: City Code section 12.26.040

Dear Mr. Young:
In searching for a Code section about the sign at the Library I came across the following:
12.26.040 Firearms, campfires, fireworks and camping.
A.The possession of firearms in City parks is prohibited, except those firearms in possession of law enforcement personnel.

As was the case with the Library, this Section is out of compliance with State pre-emption per RCW 9.41.290 and needs to be updated. If my guess is correct, the sign can be changed by simple administrative action, but this Code section must be changed by legislative action of the City Council. If this is so I would ask that you put it on the Agenda for consideration as soon as possible. I would also ask that you request that the Police Chief not enforce the Section while legislative action is pending.

I appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance in these matters. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me.

I just now watched the video from Bellingham. APPALLING! Yes, Bellingham repealed their own parks ordinance but in the next breath passed a resolution to lobby the legislature to enact a statewide gun ban in all city parks. This is some really scary stuff. If they get other cities to join their bandwagon, we could be in for some MAJOR trouble. I have some ideas of my own about combating this, but what about somebody else? It looks like time to get ready for battle. :banghead:

Would you please explain how this remark fits in the present thread? It looks to me like a total non sequitur.
