Now you know your neighbor is a tool so you don't have to waste time trying to be nice to him ;)

When I stopped in Flagstaff at a gas station some jerk walked up to me while I was paying the manager and told me since I don't have a uniform he certainly hopes I have a badge. I told him Arizona is not a communist state and I don't need a badge to exercise my Constitutional rights. The gas station manager chimed in and told him to leave me alone, because it is legal to carry and he added he would carry, too, but the company policy prohibits it... This jerk then eased up on me and added that it is safe here and I don't needa gun. I told him it is safe, because his weenie ass is protected by poeple like me and the gas station manager. What a jerk! Walks up to an armed stranger wearing a muscle shirt with "I can't help stupid" written on it.... do you think he was truly affraid of me carrying or felt safe to harrass me, because I didn't look like a bank robber?....

That's what I like the best. I'm evil enough that I carry a big mean gun and make the streets run red with blood, but -- by god -- these brave citizens will martyr themselves and face my murderous wrath to let me know just how wicked I am.

I think a really good answer to that question is...

"Only if you give me a good reason. The last time I checked the laws, being a (insert your own adjective here) isn't good enough. <G>

I did call him that. It's called clear, concise, and straight communication. Not very common in America anymore where you have to use false words to describe bastards, stewardesses, secretaries, the trash man, fat people and so forth.... let's see illegitimate, flight attendant, office specialist, sanitation expert, round figured or diet challenged or whatever.... I say speak plain English and even a jerk will get it!!!

Good job.

I'd suggest walking over (while not OCing) and chat him up.
Maybe apologize and say something like, "Hey, neighbor, I'm reallysorry if it ticks you off, but I'm legal. I just want to make sure I do not miss an opportunityto communicate as afriendly neighbor. We may not agree but we can still be good neighbors."Then shake his hand.

Take the high road.

They can find a happy medium without Radwood having to apologize or hide his firearm.:banghead:

I doubt it. I rather doubt it.

radwood's got a combatant as a neighbor right now. Obviously, something to avoid if one is being rational about things...

Sorry Agent19 but (except for the way she said it) HankT is right on this one.

radwood, she didn't say you should say you were sorry you did anything, you are sorry he doesn't like what you did.

You neighbor is in a box with this thing and he won't listen to anything while he sees your gun, so conceal carry it and talk to him. Who knows you might defuse a situation.

Ill tell you a story;

My wife and I were in a very fashionable Mexican Restaurant. We were with my daughter and her husband and a couple of our friends.

It was in the winter and I had my 1911 A1 in a pancake holster on my right hip and two extra magazines on my left hip.

When we were seated I took off my coat and put it over the back of the chair.

Our waiter was a young man in his twenties and we talked with him several times during the meal, with him always at my left.

We had completed our meal, placed our left-overs in the containers he had provided, paid the check and were ready to leave.

Our waiter was arranging plates on a tray set on a portable stand to my left.

I stood and turned to retrieve my coat. It was at this point that our waiter noticed my .45 and said"You've got a gun!"

My response was, "Sure, would you like to see it." My wife followed that with, "Yes you don't have to worry when my husband's around, because he will always have your back."

We continued to talk to the young man and quickly turned the whole situation into a learning experience for him about what was required to get a permit to carry a weapon, and how people like me actually made things safer for the general public.

In this instance, as well as many others, to numerous to mention, I have cared what other people thought and I have taken the time to educate people, as illustrated by this young man, who may eventually come more to our way of thinking.

Just an example of how you can turn a bad confrontation into a good one.

It depends: you educate some and offend others. I would never waste my time educating Hillary on my gun rights... offending her would be my main priority... Unlike our public education system which is a waste of time, my private education of others about our rights is selective and successful. Some don't have the IQ to understand... you give them a failing grade and move on... NO no "child left behind in my world"!

I made this map for you.

It shows the people who can't be trusted (according to your neighbor) flooding your state. :p

Some of this has been brought up and mentioned already but may be relivent.

Is this person a transplant type from say CA or another state that may have different attitudes about firearms in general?

Is this transplantation starting to effect the social atmosphere of the area?

I mention this simply because here in Northern NV we are experiencing the "bay area" mentality coming over more and more. They build Californication neighborhoods for them because they don't feel safe more than 6 blocks from a Blockbuster and Starbucks. They are starting to effect the political environment albeit slowly but they are trying. We are fighting them desperately because of what we have seen in Clark County Las Vegas and it scares the living hell out of me that it could come here. I myself am a refugee of the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts. I escaped to N NV in 2004. My neighbors were not happy to see the plates on my truck were from another loathed state. I assured them of my intentions to live like a Nevadan and all is well. They are great people.

Does this seem to describe what your experiencing in AZ. I've heard that Pheonix is growing and is described as a land of opportunity.

now that would make for a interesting bumper sticker..

i myself wouldn't bother with a neighbor like yours cause there are some folks that are to set in their ways to be reasoned with.though i'd do like soeone said earlier and make a report with police about being harassed about you practicing your legal rights..

I suggest an alternate approach. Offer to take him to the range and become familiar with your sidearm so he can see for himself how it works.

Maybe he is just a jerk. Maybe his dog died. Maybe he responds to fear with aggression. Who knows?

But if you change his stance to just even neutral, we all win.

However document this encounter in writing like youhave done and mail it to yourself. Don't open the envelope when it arrives, securethe envelope in a safe place for future use if a complaint has to be filed.
This type of documentation doesn't stand up as evidence either to the Police, or in Court (Criminal or Civil). If it was accepted, I could screw many people by mailing myselfempty unsealed envelopes every week and then insert whatever I wanted to, then seal it, proving that someone harrassed me every week for the past six months.

If you are interested in keeping a record of actual harrassment, then you need to carry either a Digital Voice Recorder, of a Digital Mini Video Camera.

Tarzan,I standcorrected as to the way it was worded.

Maybe the neighbor just needed a few days or some extra attention from the Mrs.

I can tell you didn't by what you posted.
I read the entire post. I don't see that I have missed anything. My point was, why use a stamp and seal the note in the envelope, it adds nothing tovalidite what you have written. If you want a date and time on the written record, then send yourself an e-mail, at least that can be verified as to date and time.
