Published: June 12, 2009
Richmond police are investigating the shooting of a convenience store clerk tonight on Jefferson Davis highway only about three blocks from where a shopkeeper was killed earlier this week.
Two gun-wielding males wearing all black entered the Golden Food Market in the 2700 block of Jefferson Davis shortly before 10 p.m., said Richmond Police Capt. Scott Booth.
An unknown number of rounds were fired and the clerk was shot six times, but police said his injuries were not life-threatening.
The clerk was taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment.
Late Tuesday night, Ashraf M. Alatiyat, 30, co-owner of the Come and Go Food Market in the 2400 block of Jefferson Davis, was shot to death during a robbery at the store.
Police have a grainy security-camera photo of the Come and Go suspect but have not made an arrest in the homicide.
Standing on the sidewalk tonight outside the Golden store, Felicia Cousins, who lives two blocks from the market, said she was a frequent customer there and also knew Alatiyat.
"I'm terrified. I'm scared to go into the store. Somebody might run into the store and shoot you," Cousins said.
Police have not determined whether the two store shootings are connected.
