"One guy walking around with an open revolver strapped to his belt"????
How did he keep the bullets from falling out?
And how did the caller manage to miss seeing all the other people with guns?

But I agree, the police calltaker handled it well.
I go back & forth about why should we have to notify police we're meeting when we're not breaking the law, but in this case it came in handy.

And yeah, the call to Starbuck's was at least half wanting to talk with the gal. :D
She sounded very busy, but not at all unhappy with us being there.

I usually agree, however, the reason why I notify them in these cases is because it is specifically a meet and greet and I actually invite the Delavan PD and the Walworth County Sheriff department to stop by and say hi. In addition, I invite politicians, press and other dignitaries.

How others setup their events is up to them.

Got the calls. Handled very well, in my opinion.

Initial 911 call

Agreed. Nicely handled by Delavan PD.

Well handled, too, by the law abiding citizen (LAC) who called in his concern to 911. He seemed like a reasonable bloke.

The overwhelming impression I get from the event is that it was so routine . . . and that routineness is a very good sign about the diffusion of open carry in the area.

Thanks for digging files out, PF.

I think the caller misspoke a little bit. He was plainly referring to the carried handgun being visible, or in "open" view.

Sometimes, when we are communicating an event or concept we don't get it literally correct, though the meaning may still be clear. An example is when someone talks about the "bullets ...falling out" when they really mean cartridges falling out.

Most people will not criticize the person who uses the term "bullets" when they really should use "cartridges." We know what is meant.

Unless there was a undercover officer, I did not see the Delavan police department there. He lied to the caller. ;) :p
