Do you think he did it on his own accord or was he compelled by forces above his pay grade?

Having worked as a manager at Walmart, I am sure that he was advised to call and apologize. The final choice about whether to call was more than likely his.

They want the position, they follow corporates rules...End of discussion.

That's a picture perfect world. There are just too many personalities for it to be absolute. Lone wolfs exits in every profession, some last longer than others, some are ignored, some slip by. Yes, as you mention some as are escorted out, or leave on their own. But the bottom line is there are far too many leaders out there with agenda and can make things difficult when they please, they have the power, and whether right or wrong we’re often stuck with it until things can be sorted out at a later date.

Wal-Mart corporate has a "follow state law" published coporate policy...local stores CANNOT do other wise. Doen't matter what their personal feelings are. They want the position, they follow corporates rules...End of discussion.

Yet you are conveniently overlooking the fact that State Law does not compel these private enterprises to ALLOW firearms on their premise.

If Open Carry is not prohibited under State Law fine. The store and it's manager still has the discretion to ask a customer to stop upsetting their customers. That means they can ask one to conceal their firearm or remove it from the store if the carrier has no CPL. They can also ask people who are dressed inappropriately to "cover up" or leave (you've seen all the "No Shirts, No Shoes, No Service" signs).

BTW, anyone remember this guy?

In Big Box Retail this is absolutely NOT true. A "Manager", "Store Manager" whatever title you wish to give him/her will abide by corporate policy, or walk, excuse me, be assisted in their exit. It is that simple.

A company's internal policies about the authority of a manager are none of our business, and the police and a criminal court won't be concerned with them either. I'm talking about what's allowed by law.

+1
And, would be a less free place to live if activists found a way to enact legislation that removed above mentioned discretions from private business/corps.

It also seems to me that some managers may confuse the EMPLOYEE restrictions on carry imposed by these big box stores upon the hired ones and the CUSTOMER based policy based upon the fact that they want money from the consumers!
