Can someone clarify for the group please: Does state law prohibit a teacher from leaving their firearm in their vehicle? Is it school policy? Are we saying it's Federal law?

I know in Michigan it is legal to leave it in your vehicle on school grounds. State law expressly states such to protect teachers or unlicensed owners from having to be unarmed.

As for carrying on or inside school property: Unlicensed OC is legal for anyone 18+ in general. Unlicensed carry is not allowed on school property, except for leaving it in your vehicle. Concealed carry is prohibited on school property, except for leaving it in your vehicle. Here comes the confusing part; if you are licensed to carry concealed, you ARE allowed to OC on or inside school property. How's that for weird?

ETA: To stay on topic - Last week I OC'ed at Walmart (122nd / Memorial), GameStop (same location), Freddy's Frozen Custard (same area - just South), KFC (122nd / Penn), Taco Bell (same location), Vintage Stock (72nd? / May) WalMart Neighborhood Market (Britton / Penn), Walgreens (same location) all in OKC with no issues.

Title 21, Section 1277 lists Elementary and Secondary schools as prohibited places. This section also provides for the parking lot exemption, however Elementary and Secondary schools are not included in that exemption.
http://www.oscn.net/applications/oscn/DeliverDocument.asp?CiteID=69745

Now, Title 21, Section 1280.1 talks specifically about firearms on school property. One of the exclusions to having a firearm on school property is as follows:
A gun or knife designed for hunting or fishing purposes kept in a privately owned vehicle and properly displayed or stored as required by law, or a handgun carried in a vehicle pursuant to a valid handgun license authorized by the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act, provided such vehicle containing said gun or knife is driven onto school property only to transport a student to and from school and such vehicle does not remain unattended on school property;
http://www.oscn.net/applications/oscn/DeliverDocument.asp?CiteID=69749

So we have no parking lot exemption for school property, but we allow in cars being used for drop off and pickup and the vehicle can't remain unattended.

And to remain somewhat on topic, I did not carry a firearm into OETA yesterday as they are state property.

I've been stopped three times, all were basically non-events.

First time in Texas, doing 65 in a 60. Showed my license to the officer, he said OK, and never mentioned it again.

Then in Boswell, OK. I had my wife's electric wheelchair on a lift attached to our camper and a strap had come loose. When officer approached I showed him my license, he asked what I was carrying. ".38 Special behind my back and NAA mini in my T-shirt pocket." His reply, "Cool, how do like the NAA?" So we talked about it for a bit, then I got out and fixed the strap on the wheelchair.

Last time was at the Henryetta toll booth on the Indian Nation. They were doing some construction and had put up a stop sign at the entry ramp from the McDonalds. I didn't see the sign. I went through the PikePass lane, saw the HP sitting there, and as soon as I got through he lit me up. I showed him my license, he asked what I was carrying and where. I told him, .38Special behind my back. He asked me to go with him back to his car, I asked what to do with the weapon. He said, "I don't care, you don't look like someone who would shoot me." I left it in the seat of my Tahoe. While he was writing my warning I remembered the NAA in my T-shirt pocket. I gave it some thought and decided it was best to just keep that little secret to myself.

Yeah and section 1277 list the violation for carrying on school grounds as a misdemeanor and 1280 list the violation as a felony. And also don't forget about the IMO bogus federal gun free school zone act.

Oklahoma SDA

Just one resource for US law, this link has the GFSZ act.
http://law.justia.com/codes/us/2010/title18/parti/chap44/sec922/

Just a note that if you are licensed by the state which the school zone is located the FGFSZA does not apply.

Utica Square- public spaces & cramdown

After a late lunch I had a minor but important encounter with security at Utica Square. THE fanciest shopping center in Tulsa. Security told me I had to go to my car and lock it inside or leave on threat of trespassing charges. I was not given the option to CC instead of OC. "Trespass" being lawful carry in the public space between parking, stores etc.

Also told that the property owner (Heimlich & Payne, a major oil company) intended to force new contracts all tenets so they couldn't choose on their own to allow, restrict or ignore open or concealed carry by customers. Probably every shopping center and mall in town is owned by a third party who could try this same ploy- cut off the space between the street & parking to the stores.

BTW, decision last year to disarm all the security officers there.

Apparently the SOs will be filing "incident reports" for each encounter so maybe they're still open to public opinions & further explanation of the issue rights issue & not just fear of possible liability like others pulling guns from our holsters. Wish I'd had a "No Guns = No Money" cards for them to include with their report.

Just in one day, and the day is not over yet.
Bass Pro in BA, 2A Shooting center (my daughters second time to shoot, she loved it), Braums at 71st and 169, Best Buy and JC Pennys home Store at the same location, WalMart at 71st/145th, Salon 71, WalMart at 71st/Creek Turnpike. Not an issue at any location, not even a pair of bug eyes. OC has been the biggest non-event in recent history.

My 16 year old daughter drove down to spend Thanksgiving Day with me. We went to Walmart to geet a few things, and had Thanksgiving Dinner in a very crowded Golden Corral. No problems. While we waited in line, 2 men behind me finally noticed after about 15 minutes, and didn't say anything to me. I heard one say to the other, "He must have a good reason for doing that"... I was in the middle of a convo with my daughter, so I acted like I didn't hear them.

OCd at black Friday events at Belle Isle WalMart from 7:30pm to 10:30pm. Nobody seemed to care, very few even noticed. Two OCSD Deputies saw me several times, they noticed, but it didn't seem to bother them.

All in Broken Arrow, Yesterday it was Lone Star for lunch, Hobby Lobby, QT. In Hobby Lobby, had a lady follow me for about a minute, I think she was trying to see if it was really a gun on my hip. Once she saw, she moved on. Met the manager on one aisle and he saw but didn't react at all.

OC'ed in OKC at the Waffle House at Memorial / Western for breakfast; Walmart at Penn / Memorial while shopping for quite a while. No issues at either location. Several folks at Waffle House noticed it because I had to sit strong side out so as not to have my back to the door. I know they noticed because they looked directly at my sidearm, made eye contact with me, smiled, and looked back at my sidearm again. None of them seemed to be alarmed or concerned in the least. I don't think anyone at Walmart even noticed, as is typical most of the time everywhere.

OC in BA Walmart

Hello All:

Been around a while lurking and reading posts, i have been CCing for a couple years and deceided it was time to OC.
My first trip to WM and i run into this little old lady and her daughter, the Old lady was shocked that someone was allowed to carry a gun in such places. And she happily let me know it as i walked by. The whole time her daughter was telling her "its was legal now mom and its not that big of a deal". I proceded to shop chuckling inside, and the poor lady must have had the same exact shopping list i had since we had to have run into each other 5 additional times, she had to think i was trying to stalk her. So my expereince was uneventful but was nice not to worry about my shirt blowing up or reaching the wrong way and exposing myself.

28 Days

I've been OCing for 28 days now, literally everywhere. I've had maybe three total individuals talk to me about it, two of those with questions regarding how to obtain/what to expect for their own licensing. I've been in Wal-Mart (probably a dozen times), Sam's Club, a multitude of both dine-in and fast food restaurants, O'reilly Auto Parts, Advance Auto Parts, Reasor's, QuikTrip probably 20 times or better, Garden Ridge, Lowe's (probably a dozen times), Cycle Gear, Book Stores, Starbucks, Target and many more. I've only had two incidents.

1. My bank, where it was posted near the door "NO WEAPONS ALLOWED". The manager quickly notified me that guns were not allowed (in Federal Buildings he said, until I notified him that a bank is not a Federal Building, whereupon he changed his verbiage) but he let me conduct my transaction, and he stood by me the whole time and escorted me out.

2. Last night, I was heading into Buffalo Wild Wings in BA with my family and another couple (4 adults, 3 kids). Size: LARGE Gunbuster sign on the door. What a disappointment from one of our favorite restaurants (oh well, their service ALWAYS sucks anyways). I asked to speak with the manager and he told me that the decision was made by the Franchise owner, who also owns the other 2 BW's in Tulsa, and lives in OKC. I gave him the business card and let him know the amount of business that they just lost. He had no info on how to contact said Franchise owner. That is all.

All in all, the public seems as apathetic about our exercising of rights as they do about their having them.

I was talking to a friend of mine who manages one of a number of family owned stores in the metro. At this point they have no policy on carry, either by employees or the public. He was telling me one of his employees was carrying on Nov 1 and another employee asked him if he was going to say anything to her. He said, Why? She hasn't had any problems with customers all day. Everyone has been real nice to her today.

I had to laugh.
