What gives me pause about Colbert is that there are a lot of people in this country whose main news source is Colbert and his fellow CLOWN Jon Stewart (nee Liebovitz). Such folks are younger mostly, and think of the satirical component as a "spoonful of sugar" to make the nasty medicine of current events go down. When John Pierce went on one of those shows, I can only say he kept his cool admirably in the face of what I saw as attempts to get a rise out of a "gun guy" via ridicule. The video clips of a lout armed with an AR-15 protesting his "rights" in a coffee shop as folks stared at him showed in which light they were casting John. They also did beauty shots of John and Mike walking armed along the Alexandria, VA waterfront -- as if they were lovers!!

Hokey Smokes.

But John did a good job, and Colbert did not succeed in making a fool of him.
