No issues.....but today ended with the following little exchange....

Ed and I left the coliseum to go to the car...realizing we were on the wrong side of the building, we re-entered the coliseum.Ayoung "security" staff member asked to look in our bags.

Ed said, "What are looking for?" And as the guy peered in his bag and then looked in mine...he said, "Just guns and stuff....you know." Ed said, "You mean like the one I have on my hip?"

The security guy shockingly goes "Oh $xxx!" Looks over to his supervisor and asks, "Is he allowed to have that?" The supervisor says, "It's okay."

LOL....Classic.... ;)

I had almost the exact same thing happen to me! I was standing in line waiting to get in while the yellow shirted "security" officer was looking through peoples bags.

I had the goody bag I that I had been given the day before and opened it up holdingit right under the PT-111 I had holstered on my right hip and he motioned me on through.

As I was asking a young lady where the "box lunches" were being handed out, the same "security" officer ran up to me and said "Sir, Sir, can I speak to you over here?", and started motioning for me to go back over to where we were just in line. I said "Well, you're speaking to me right here, aren't you?". He then said " Well its just that you've got a ..., well, I can see it,its not concealed...". To which I happily replied "Clearly!!!". The "security" officer then said "Well, you're okay then.", and I said "Great, I'm so glad I'm 'okay', and have you're approval!", and then went on to collect my box lunch (which wasn't all that bad!!!), and vote!!!

Boy, the openly carried gun was about 6-8 inches from his head while he was bent down looking in my bag for ... a gun. That'sthe kind of"extra" security $35,000.00 buys? I'd be asking for a refund.

I just checked the Coliseum calendar and do not see any up coming program/event that seems suitable for a follow-up to test the waters - that's is disappointing.
The always fabulous Watchtower event, where thousands of Jehovah's Witnesses visit, will be an interesting experience next month.

The Jehovah's Witnesses are all about proselytizing, and they carry with them pamphlets and stickers to pass around.

So, how will SMG and the RPD treat them?

Repeater,

There are cheerleading events in November and Feb 2010.

Give me an O, give me a P.....

Seriously though you are right, looks like the eventslist ispretty slim for now.

Wonder if Glenn will come back for his Christmas tour this year, if he does one.

Please Stand By To Stand By.

Major (OK, maybe just a 1st Lt) news item to be released regarding the matter.

Check your calendars to see if you are available. I believe GSL stickers will be made available for the event.

That Is All. Carry On.

stay safe.

1. ACTION ITEM: VCDL to address Richmond City Council on Monday
2. VCDL membership meeting in Richmond on Wednesday - Doc Thompson of
WRVA to speak!

1. ACTION ITEM: VCDL to address Richmond City Council on Monday
*****************************************************************

I will be speaking on behalf of the VCDL at the Richmond City Council
meeting this Monday, June 22, at 6 PM.

I will be addressing the issue of the Richmond Coliseum management
making people take off their "Guns Save Lives" stickers at the recent
Glenn Beck show.

Local talk show personality, Doc Thompson, has been hammering the
Coliseum management about that issue and the management's refusal to
contact his show to discuss it.

The Coliseum claimed that stickers were something they had banned
before the Glenn Beck show, but stickers were everywhere at the
Republican convention and stickers from OTHER organizations WERE
allowed into the Glenn Beck show!

Fortunately, because Google archives web pages, it was discovered that
nothing had been posted on the Coliseum's site about stickers prior to
the Glenn Beck show. In fact, the Coliseum web site did not show
stickers as being banned until days after the Glenn Beck show, when
VCDL and Thompson turned up the heat. The Coliseum management was
clearly trying to cover its rear end.

I've had reports of members with Gun Save Lives stickers being treated
rudely by the Coliseum staff during the Glenn Beck show, as well.

It would be great if we could get a good turnout to show support for
my statements about the mismanagement at the Coliseum.

I will be at City Hall around 5:45 PM on Monday to handout Guns Save
Lives stickers.

This will also be a good opportunity to check out if there are any
problems with VCDL members carrying at City Hall. In the hopefully
**unlikely** event that security does not know the law and you are not
allowed to enter the building, comply and look for a VCDL
representative outside.

Richmond City Hall is at the intersection of 9th and Broad streets,
with the entrance on 9th street. The building is across Broad street
from the General Assembly building. There should be street parking at
that hour.

2. VCDL membership meeting in Richmond on Wednesday - Doc Thompson of
WRVA to speak!
*****************************************************************

VCDL will have a membership meeting at the Richmond main library
facility on Wednesday, June 24, at 7 PM. Thanks to Roy B. Scherer for
having the meeting room appropriated.

We will have a special guest speaker: talk show personality Doc
Thompson of WRVA!
Doc spoke at Lobby Day and is a strong supporter
for our right to keep and bear arms.

After Doc speaks, I will cover the various things that are cooking in
Virginia and on Capitol Hill.

LET'S PACK THE ROOM!

The library is at 101 E. Franklin street (between 1st and 2nd
streets). The meeting will be in the Auditorium annex.

There is a parking deck on 2nd street, but there is plenty of parking
on the surrounding streets at that hour.

After the meeting, we will go to a local restaurant for continued
fellowship. If you plan on carrying at the restaurant, be prepared to
open carry as most restaurants in the area serve alcohol.

Peter -

I've never seen one of us charge at a MMM or other anti with venom and vitriol spilling out of our mouths.

I've never seen one of us try to close our public meeting in a public buillding because the antis showed up - even if they did not act respectfully.

I've never seen one of us intentionally and knowingly tell lies to the press or a deliberative body of the General Assembly.

I guess we are worse than the MMM-ers.:D

stay safe.
