After reading a post about the guy in Yakima shooting at fleeing criminals, what is your stance on non lethal rounds such as bean bags, rubber bullets, rock salt...?

I keep 2 bean bags loaded in my shotgun followed by birdshot then a slug. Is use of non lethal rounds still looked apon the same as firing lethal rounds? Is there anything that covers the use of these types of rounds?
There is 00 buck in my shotgun in the bedroom. If someone is in my home univited there can only be one reason, to do harm to me and my family. The only non lethal 'round' would be the empty shotgun being used as a club.
