We are speaking of a dog here.

Placing a hand on, or drawing a pistol will have no effect whatsoever on a dog, unless it has been trained to see that as a stimulus to drive a response.

But, the loud noise from a pistol shot WILL be likely to have an effect on a dog.

Does an attack by dog fit any statutory requirement for escalation of force.
