Did you guys even read the article... while the headline related it to "swating" (attention grabbing headline)... the organizations aren't recommending calling with any false information. They're recommending you call and report a man with a gun and that you feel unsafe and would like police presence. If that advice is followed, it's up to police to decide how to respond (if at all). There's no suit or defamation there.
Don't overreact to every headline. It's playing into the anti's hands.
quote: It is not the first time supporters of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence and other gun control advocates have pressed for the public to call cops on legal gun owners. An October 2014 National Review article found that the Facebook pages and websites of groups including the coalition, Moms Demand Action and GunFreeZone.net
included numerous comments from the public advocating that people call the police and intentionally exaggerate what they see in the hopes of getting cops to stop those open-carrying guns. unquote

quote: But the video shows Loehmann did not even give Rice a chance, hopping out of the patrol car before it even comes to a complete stop and opening fire.
In fact, other than a call to dispatch from a witness saying Rice was randomly pointing the gun at people, but also adding that the gun was “probably fake” and that Rice was “probably a juvenile” –
the latter two details the dispatcher failed to relay to the two officers, they did not even have a reasonable suspicion that he was committing a crime.
The reports also don’t mention the fact that the man who called 911 had sat at a table in the gazebo in the park for 20 minutes watching Rice playing with his gun.
And no mention is made of the fact that nobody else called 911, indicating that if Rice had been pointing the gun at others, they obviously did not feel threatened to the point that they needed to call police or worse, kill Rice. unquote

apparently my read of the 'article' seems to differ from yours, as shown above.
further, apparently the good citizen after watching the individual for 20 minutes didn't 'intentionally exaggerate what they see' to 911, but the good police dispatcher will fail to relay pertinent information to the good responding officers ,who, drove up at mock speed right in the middle of the park next to the gazbo and even before the patrol car comes to a complete stop, the driver jumps out, and within 18 seconds shoots the 12yo boy playing with the airsoft gun. DA sanctioned investigations say police were justified...
or the beaverton PD who responded to the wally world after the 911 caller said there was a man with a gun, arrived, immediately went into commando mode, hunted the citizen down playing with a toy, and shot and killed them.
following your advice of don't over react to the article...tell that to the families of the two individuals i mentioned above who died from 911 calls while doing nothing wrong!!
ya the 'article' had a headline which was attention grabbing...just as a bottle of poison has a warning label on it...therefore, i heed that attention grabbing headline to alert me, like the warning label on the bottle of poison, to make me aware i read the article to assure i am cognizant of all factors when i leave my residence, e.g., SA, condition of my PD firearm, etc., that I also need to be knowledgeable of the tactics being spew by emotionally charged & biased citizens who can, in a singular phone call, bring death to me under the color of law and w/impunity, faster than the BGs i MIGHT randomly encounter and MIGHT have to defend myself against.
