Highlighting, bolding, underlining and typing in caps are ways to bring "special" attention to postings.

Indeed, typing in all caps is considered to be yelling and blocks of colored fonts can be hard on the eyes; so avoidance is a matter of courtesy too.

Generally people follow a forum standard as a matter of good principle, rather than going against the grain and thereby suggesting/implying that their posts are more worthy of consideration than those of others.

Bottom line - no don't think he was being too touchy - was giving good advice.

It's not so much confusing as it is annoying. Usually when you see colored font it's your cue to say "oh snap, this must be important I better pay attention to what this says." Then when you read it and it's another post you eventually start to think, oh it's that green font again...eh, I'm skipping it this time...out of spite.

I'll decide whether your posts are worth taking seriously or not. If you try and tell me that it's important with green font, I'll eventually get tired of reading it and not read it at all.

As long as it's a readable font and color, I don't care what it is. Comic sans in bright blue - that is a bit annoying. Green is no big deal for me.
