The problem is the people are not harmed or forced into worshiping, they are given a day off. Probably President Grant realized that most people did not want to work on the holiday, and wanted to observe at home, and gave them the day off. To be fair he gave everybody the day off.

People are given the day off for a CHRISTIAN holiday. Do you still not get it?

NOW you come along and want to take away the day off for everybody because you hate Christians.

So what? How does that personally affect you? It is none of your business what they do on the day off, or that they have a day off. If you don't want a day off, don't take it. Leave other people alone. BTW people of other faiths DO get the day off. Your hatred of Christians is so evident in every post, it is not that you have to pray or worship it is that they can.

The concept of no faith, and then the war cries over others faith is ironic to say the least. It is clear that for some it is not that they do not believe, it is the fact that others do believe.

No, that is a common religious argument. I don't have to believe anything, #science. I have a structured set of laws and rules which govern everything from how experiments are run to how the universe functions. Also, if you are going to bring up the theory/law argument I suggest you look up how each are defined in science before you start anything. Anyway, Belief or non-belief DO NOT matter you are just using that to derail the real argument. That argument is that atheist have to prove nothing, we have science and reality backing us up. I don't believe there is no god there just IS NO GOD, that's it. You absolutely have to back up your claim and have proof there is a god, the bible/koran/torah/Bhagavad Gita none of these are proof. so please religious people, stop getting offended because you're grasping at straws. Sorry I could have made that more clear. that was a response to those who claim we are in a state of belief similar to those who believe in religion, insinuating that we have to prove our position. And, as i did not say legally, not an attempt to say people should have to prove anything for it to be recognized by the state.

I didn't piss on anyone's boots. This was a thread originally started for people who want to be free from religion. Others came on to the thread with immediate anger and vile argumentative posts. So, who pissed on who's boots? plus i see it as pushing people out of the way of a moving bus, but if you don't want help that's up to you. you can also not respond to a thread for atheists, just saying

Okay. I see what you're saying. well, if you run up to a group of people and say that you saw a unicorn(real not an OC'er) people are going to want proof. If people make a claim that a person must be stoned to death because their god says so, they need proof at least in the US. and here in 2013, no court in the US is going to hear a case about a woman deserving to be stoned to death because she didn't wear religious attire. I think that the need to prove why you believe what you believe is important to human freedom everywhere.

There is negative atheism, which is the absence of belief in a deity, and positive atheism, which asserts that there is no deity. Negative atheists do not have a belief that a deity does not exist.
