Poll: Convention lifts McCain over Obama

By Susan Page, USA TODAY WASHINGTON — The Republican National Convention has given John McCain and his party a significant boost, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken over the weekend shows, as running mate Sarah Palin helps close an "enthusiasm gap" that has dogged the GOP all year. McCain leads Democrat Barack Obama by 50%-46% among registered voters, the Republican's biggest advantage since January and a turnaround from the USA TODAY poll taken just before the convention opened in St. Paul. Then, he lagged by 7 percentage points.

Wouldn't be celebrating yet, the final stretch is still early and you know as well as I or anybody else the numbers could change just as quickly to one canidate to the other. You could be eating crow within just a few days, ya know;)

The findings of TrooperGate should be coming outwithin the next 2 to 3 weeks. If she has nothing tohide than why is theAlaskan RP supplying her with an attorney?

She's got a lot of skeletons in her closet, a lot! So, sit down and enjoy the ride now why you can before she crashes in burns before your very eyes.

“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.

So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me. Can everyone hear me in the back? I see a couple of sportsmen back there. I’m not going to take away your guns.’’

As a third-year law student (and soon-to-be attorney), all I can say is that any political figure under investigation--even if he or she is as innocent as a newborn baby, which I think is the case here with the firing of the former state trooper who tasered his 10-year-old stepson :what:and made threats against his father-in-law (who is also the governor's father)--needs to be represented by counsel because the sharkswill becircling if they aren't already.

McCain/Palin has them quaking in their boots. Just watch how petty and shrill the detractors become. Now it gets interesting. Hillary must be seething that her moment in history has been overshadowed by this interloper.

“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ (Fourth Amendment.)

"Even if I want to take them away..."
OK ... this dufus obviously has no concept of the Constitution... as does much of the Socialist Illinois political machine (among others).

This being the same Constitution he has sworn to support and defend... possibly several times asa politician. Guns (Arms) are instruments of self defense first 'n foremost. Target shooting, huntin' 'n all that are recreational sidelines. "I see a couple of sportsmen back there...." Oh?Were they wearing signs or have that Elmer Fudd thing goin' on? Maybe they were fisherman... Who knows. Yeah... maybe they were 'gunners'... but he'll damn sure try to control what you use those firearms for... where you may keep them... what types and flavors are allowed. He'll also try to restrict ammunition types and availability... or tax it out of existance. This being the same guy who voted on banning mfg, and sale of allhandguns in the US. Think about that idea. Anyone who thinks this clown isn't a Marxist is delusional.

"The Second Amendment extends, prima facie to all instruments that constitute bearable arms. The very text of the Second Amendment implicitly recognizes the pre-existence of the right and declares only that it ‘shall not be infringed’.” : SCJ Anthony Scalia 2008

Obama's view of America is MUCH different than most of ours... MUCH! He represents (and is) a clear and present danger. If he and the politicians of his stripe were to run under their own political symbology 'n colors, rather than hi-jacking the Democrat Party over the past 40 years.... they'd never get elected.

That video is hilarious. I see some here who don't seem to recognise that it is factually and visually inaccurate for the sake of humor...but that's funny.

This comment is not directed at longwatch but he who's name is not to be spoken.

Just got this e-mail from a Former Navy Senior Chief I served with:

"Fishing is good here at Wildman and I rarely have time for politics, but many of our’ friends are asking us “Who is Sarah Palin?’’ Of course, as Alaskans, Kathy and I are extremely proud of her.’ We just want to let you know that’ Sarah ‘Barracuda’ Palin is a straight shooting, hard charging, get it done gal.’ She knows when to listen, how to analyze the facts and how to make a decision, then implement the plan.’ She doesn9t do a poll before jumping in with both feet like too many of the Washington types.’ She has little legislative experience because she has always held the EXECUTIVE position; in private life, as mayor of Anchorage’s largest bedroom community or more recently as Governor of our State.’ She is a smart, attractive home grown Alaska girl with excellent moral and family values.’ She can see what needs to be done and does not hesitate to get it done.

One of our State’s major problems is that its Capital is in Juneau, 500 miles from the nearest road and 800 air miles from the population base which is Anchorage, Wasilla and Fairbanks.’ Our legislature and most of the State government is in Juneau and they ALL behave like a bunch of freshmen in a college town.’ It has been this way since Statehood in 1959. ‘When Sarah moved to Juneau, so did accountability and responsibility’ When the oil revenue started flown and a barrel of North Slope Crude hit $23.00, these people began spending money like drunken sailors.’ You can only imagine what was happening when oil hit $100.00 a barrel, about the time Sarah took command.’ My wife Kathy has first-hand experience with this fiasco, as her father and also her ex-husband were Alaska Legislators who served in Juneau as Senators, Senate President, or members of the State House for a combined period spanning nearly three decades.

About the time Sarah took the HELM as Governor of Alaska, about half of the State legislature was in the pocket of big oil companies or contractors doing big projects for Native Corporations around Alaska, all funded by State oil revenue. ‘Alaska government was nothing but a good old boys club riding the perpetual wave of prosperity.’ This filtered down from the legislature, through the Department of Natural Resources, ‘Department of Labor and even spilled in to the Public Safety who are supposed to ‘preserve and protect’.

When Sarah walked ‘into the Governor’s Mansion, she promptly dismissed the State Trooper detachment assigned to Governor and had her and her husband’s gun case brought in from Wasilla. Then, she got rid of the former Governor’s STATE Jet and told legislators that there were no more free rides, they would have to fly Alaska Airlines, just like her and her family if they wanted to travel. Next came the nut cutting (the Barracuda part) the heads that rolled were too numerous to name, but when Sarah finished cleaning house, a number of our legislators ended up in jail for on corruption charges, or tendered their resignations along with numerous department heads and those who have been riding the gravy train for way too long,’ AND THEN SHE HAD LUNCH.’ By the end of the day, Sarah Palin had saved the people of Alaska millions and has not yet slowed down.

She has truly brought CHANGE to Juneau. I personally know several persons in the private sector in Alaska that hold her in high esteem. She surrounds herself with smart people, many from my hometown of Anchorage; she listens to them but makes her own decisions. Sarah Palin is a no B.S. politician. It is refreshing that there is such a thing anymore.’ You want to talk about CHANGE? ‘You should see a before and after picture of the State government in Alaska. That’s CHANGE!’ Sarah will bring a number of things to the election.’ I am sure she will appeal many voters who my otherwise could have gone the other direction on Election Day. The conservative block will not be for Barack.’ We have their vote.’ We need what Sarah will bring, first to the election and second, what she will bring to Washington D.C.’ McCain has been advised well, let’s just hope the American people can get the straight scoop on her in the weeks ahead.’’ This is just the opinion of one Alaska Bush Pilot and Guide, who pays attention to national politics, watches the news and is deathly afraid of the direction our great nation is headed.’ I guarantee that if Sarah gets a chance to dig her spurs into the flanks of the liberal Washington types, they will know that she is in the saddle.

Your E-8 friend needs to have his head examined... Family values, tell that to little Bristol who was knocked up when she was 16! What a croc. Oh, when she took over as the Mayor of Wasila the budget for the town was in the black. When she left it she left it in 22 million in the red. Oh, forgot to mention that jet she said she sold on Ebay was of course a lie, she sold it to a broker for a $600,000 loss to the tax payers of that great State of Alaska. Your friend also forgot to mention the Bridge to Nowhere. First she was all for it than decided against it when she learned that the Federal Government was not going to fund the whole project so instead of returning the earmark back to Washington she kept it to spend on something else. A lot of politicians go for earmarks but when you run a campaign saying you are for change and that you are a maverick of some sort and no porkbelly spending well that is just bull crap...

A little off topic but McCain better hope the Dems don't recall the Keaton - 5 Scandle that McCain was heavily involved in.
