Ummmm what happened to the fiance?

Those stickers were supposed to have been addressed on all state parks like 2 years ago. I guess they only go out to the parks and up when someone calls them on it. At least it seems like they do take care of them when they're contacted.

The signs @ South Beach State campground just south of Newport still are not taken care of. They still reflect the "possession prohibited" language.

Ate dinner at Laughing Planet tonight in downtown Corvallis. The cashier asked what kind of pistol I had and I let him know. Ate dinner there and had a few stares on the way out but no other interactions. Afterward I drove out of town to conduct a craigslist transaction. Then over to a friend's house to wish him a happy birthday. He's familiar with open carry (he's done it before) but his parents were over and they mentioned how I was the one who carried a handgun around. His dad said something to the effect of, "if more people did it then nobody would ever be concerned [about the presence of a firearm]". Good encounters all around.

Funny, I drove down at OCed at McMenamins and had dinner around 8pm.

Medford, left the house at 3pm, returned at 11pm. OC'd all day except while at the college for about an hour. Wore my "One Big Ass (pic of Democrat donkey) Mistake America" T shirt.

Rainey's Corner (234 & Antioch), stopped for a pack of smokes.

At my attorney's office, no questions or looks but then they know I carry.

Rogue Community College, empty holster...the commies (sorry, I'm in a Socialism 101....er "Social Problems" course......ARRRGHHHHHh

News and Smokes, no questions or looks but had an interesting discussion with one clerk about how "we can't do anything to change the direction the country is heading". I suggested getting involved at the local level and pushing UP from there.

Sportsmans Warehouse...never any problems there.......well except that they want too much money for the reallly nice toys. The 50 BMG on the counter was $4,100 and some change. SWEET though.

Office Depot for some printer ink.

McDonalds (it was a long day)...While in line an older gentleman commented "There won't be any trouble in here while your here" and engaged me in a good conversation. When I mentioned that I'd never been hassled here by the cops but there are some problems "up north" he was surprised and asked for details. I recounted a bit about the three men in Portland that recently won the civil rights case after the cops cut the drivers seat belt to extract him after notifying the officer he was permited and armed, then cuffed him and kicked him.

WalMart, no looks, problems but the gal at the sporting goods counter and I had an interesting conversation. She said, and they have a map that backed up her story, that (Oregon WalMart stores) can sell FIREARMS to a resident of any state except California. I was under the impression that only residents of the state could lawfully purchase a firearm here...Can anyone cite anything that says otherwise?

Headed on home and put up the groceries.

Another round of open carry trash pickup this morning. I'm slowly working my way out away from my residence, so today was another couple of blocks further away. Definitely notice a difference between the blocks near my place and the blocks further out.

After that went to the a local breakfast place (Sunnyside Up?) and had an omelette. Sat near the door strong side facing outwards. Nothing to report (although the waitress did say that her day was starting off with a bang...coincidence?).

After that went to the farmer's market for some fresh produce. Originally I had thought the farmer's market might be more prone to negative encounters, but nobody seems to care. At the farmer's market today there were a group of people having a rally for "Medicare for all". Walked past/through their gathering wondering how I could obtain a "taxation is theft" sign in short order. Unfortunately no such signs fell from the sky into my hands.

In the afternoon drove down to Baron's Den shooting range in Eugene. Nice place with a huge selection of handguns to rent. They had a sign on their door saying something to the effect of, "All firearms must be unloaded and cased or holstered". I wasn't sure if that meant that they preferred holstered firearms to be unloaded, but I unloaded before entering just to avoid any possible misunderstanding. Nobody mentioned my sidearm the entire time I was there, so they probably don't care if holstered firearms are loaded. I failed to ask for clarification regarding the sign. Good day of open carry with lovely weather.

Mine was non exciting..

I stopped by the cigarette outlet in Salem next to 5 Guys. I was a regular there until I moved. The help has changed, but its still familar and comfortable. I got the stink eye from the younger lady there when I asked if one of the people still worked there..

Then I hit up my beer store here in Woodburn.

All good. :) It still surprises me when no one says a word. I suppose that will go away after a while. lol.

Critique invited..

I went down to my usual stop for a 6 pack of beer. I OC in this particular mini mart when I am not "on duty" for work. The store owner, nor has his help ever balked at my carrying beyond some silly comment now and again (such as money in a bag sir? in a joking manner).

This evening, there happened to be an older lady in the store. Odd to me for the area of town this place is located in. Anyway.

I grab my beer, and trot up to the register to pay. Lady is in line behind then walks up my strong side to look at some magazines or something, glanced over at me while guy is running my debit card.

-Is that a real gun?

Me- Yes ma'am it is.

-Is that really necessary?

Me- In some situations it can be (I said this in the most pleasing voice I could muster with a smile on)

-But why?

Me- This is America, and I refuse to be a victim.

By this time I had signed my slip and grabbed my bag to head out the door. I told the lady to have a wonderful evening and to be safe. There was no further interaction.

Comments?

Sounds like you handled it very well. I would not have done anything differently other then maybe hand her a carry card or some literature.

I am still designing some carry cards (Much like Ed's Virginia OC card) for Oregon. Otherwise, I didn't have anything with me literature wise for my beer run.

Had a successful time passing out pamphlets out at two NNO events. Visited Gresham first and had glances and some big eyes as I was walking around but nothing major. I then went over to Fairview, the event was being held in the park next to city hall. I passed out some to random citizens, a sheriff deputy, a Fairview Police officer and an FBI Agent. I was walking back to my car and I noticed the sheriff deputy reading the pamphlet. :)

Sounds like you did good, hard to explain something if they might have a preconceived notion.

Damn, you beat me to it TeddeBearFromHell.

At Dogbait. Handled fine. When someone says something like that....."Is that REALLY necessary" they've most likely already got preconcieved Brady ideas and you won't change their mind. With those types, it's best to just do what you did and leave them to stew.

Wow. I started this thread two years ago and it's still going! Didn't expect that to happen.

At any rate, I'm still carrying, but I do concealed carry now. Too many gung ho cops and jittery citizens. Idon't have the time to explain myself all the time either!
