Marketón (Decatur and Washington)

I'd never been to this place but they had a really good sale on eggs (20 for 1.99). I recently started OC'ing my full size 1911 with an ambidextrous draw vertical shoulder holster as opposed to the hip retention holster I was using. When I walked in I noticed a security guard out of the corner of my eye but I ignored him and went about my business. About five minutes later he approached me and said the store policy was no weapons (mind you he is armed). I told him I was within my legal right to OC and he said, "yes I know you can legally carry in this state but the management doesn't want guns in the store." He told me to finish my shopping but to not bring it again. He was polite and wasn't hostile in any way.

I think the thing to do in a case like this is to hand him your items and walk out never to return. If they don't respect your right to defend yourself, why financially support them?

When you are in the process of being advised that a private property owner does not allow guns is not the time to tell them it is your "legal right to OC." It defines you as someone that does not understand the law and is argumentative. When you came into the store, you checked some of your rights at the door. Far better to have just had a brief fact gathering conversation with the manager, left the store and followed up later.

You do not indicate which store or location - things beneficial to us. There are those that will ask if you finished shopping.

@TBG, I went and grabbed some bleach I needed. I already had the eggs and some oranges in my basket which was all I needed really. I am very into fitness and I go through eggs like water which is why I went there in the first place. @Grapeshot, it was the Martketón on Decatur/Washington. I apologize to the rest of the OC.org board members for apparently mishandling this one. The only other time i'd been asked to leave my gun in the car was at the B of A branch on Sahara/Ft. Apache. I was in a hurry and didn't feel like arguing with the lady who told me, "guns aren't allowed in here." I actually did call the branch manager the next day and he told me, "I need to check with the regional security chief regarding this" and never got back to me. Since then, I've OC'd in 2 other branches of B of A with no problems.

No apology is necessary. We have to stand up for our rights. Remember, freedom is not free. Most of us have been through similar experiences. My policy is to leave them without dropping any money there, then contact management as to if and why this is their policy. Let them know that as it stands you will not be back, and will advise others of their policy. For many business people money talks and you might just get them to rethink the perceived dangers of firearms vs. profits.

There are places I don't shop in now because of store policies. Not that many actually, but a few. I don't think there is much that any store has that you can't get someplace else. Competition is wonderful. Costco doesn't get my 500+ a month I used to drop in there and I have not missed them a bit. The point is, do they have a right to set policy? yes they do. You do have a say in the matter however by spending your money elsewhere.

Absolutely no apology is necessary. All of us have handled such minor bumps in the road in a manner most expedient for ourselves at the time.

Are you spelling the name (Martketón) of the market/food store correctly? Google gives me a goose egg, nothing.

Soooooo...... to get from hotel room to street or my rental car.... I either have to find a back stairwell and OC, or put it in a backpack/range bag until I get to the street/parkade and take my chances with the CC issue, or ???

I know once I'm on the street, with it in holster im ok, or once im in my rental car on the way to Front Sight im ok... it's just that pesky "hotel/casino" thing that is a mystery.

As I recall, here in Nevada, once you have a paid agreement for a room, that room becomes similar to "your home" and as such you are garnered a bunch of extra legal rights here. I vaguely remember a thread about this going around in the past, and essentially it was determined that once you have a room, they have to allow you access directly to and from your room, even if you OC and they don't like it. They may see you OCing on your way and escort you, but a recall, you should be good. Maybe that thread could be located, I can't come up with a proper search phrase however.

Marketon, Orleans Casino>CCRP convention

Yeah sorry for the typo, it is Marketon although the correct spelling as they have it in the Spanish is 'Marketón' Thank you John-in-Reno for the link so we can see. Today I went to the Orleans for the Clark County Republican Party convention, I even spoke for a bit regarding the platform, and I had no problems. One guy asked me if the casino gave me any hassle and I told him no. Another guy asked me if I had a 'double-action' revolver (I'm guessing he didn't know much about guns with that question). I said, "no it's a 1911." and he replied, "oh, cause I see the hammer is back." I told him the thumb safety was on and he kind of just gave me a weird look and walked away.

My wife was there too. Unfortunately I could not. It is interesting to note, not one word in the Rebublican platform regarding the Second Amendment, nor was it even discussed.

I was telling another friend about me open carrying there with 0 hassle, he couldn't make it because of a prior commitment, but he was a little awe struck because he pointed out that there was both a Senator and a Congressman there speaking. There was no specific 2nd amendment on the platform but there was a lot in obeying the Constitution which, when it came to the 2nd amendment, even the party members themselves had no issue with me. I saw on another posting that having a hip-holster says, 'I am open carrying,' but when you have a shoulder holster, you SCREAM, "I am open carrying."

UOC at red rock. The OC at Dickies BBQ Pit. Girlfriend wanted the one meat meal plate with ribs but I guess that is a different meal because ribs are more expensive. 9.50 vs 14.00. The guy goes.. well.. I'll just substitute it because he (meaning me) has a gun. We chuckled and he discounted the meal.

About to head to the strip in a bit.

oc in Henderson

I am new to this site and new to open carry as well. I've only been oc'ing for about two weeks now so i figured I would list where I have oc'ed so far. The albertsons on college and horizon, big 5 at boulder hwy and horizon, wal-mart on lake mead and boulder hwy, chipotle on sunset and stephanie, the rebel gas station at sunset and stephanie and the shell gas station at u.s. 95 and wagon wheel. I have not had any issues so far, although I was expecting some at the alberstons from the armed gaurd, but i dont think he noticed my gun. I am still searching the forums for information about my area but if anyone has any info to share that would be great.

Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear from you.

I live by that Albertsons and carry there several times a week and have been doing so for a long time now. So does the wife. If the guard there was armed, that is something new. I've never seen one packing there.

I have carried many times at most of the places you mentioned. You should not expect any problems to speak of around this area. Henderson police won't even glance at you twice unless they think you're up to something.

Just to let you know in case you don't, you are free to carry in all the Henderson parks and public buildings. Just don't try to carry in the parks/buildings in LV, NLV or County. They are still being worked on.

Hope to run into you someday around the area.

Thanks for the info, I was still unsure about the parks. Unfortunately the park next to my house has a school right next to it. The gaurd was quite a ways away from me so i could be wrong about the armed part. Hope to see you around

The school next to your park is no problem either. There is a Federal law that says you can't but it has been found unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court once already and all they did was change a few words and most agree that it still will not pass the Constitutional test. The local Cops don't want to enforce Federal laws either as it is a real pain for them. I walk daily in O'Callahan park and walk right up by the school fence. You will notice that the signs at all the parks have the "NO Firearms or Weapons" line covered. We had a OC picnic at Morrell park and it is right by a school. Lots of parks are by schools.

Be careful with that statement. The current federal law has most definitely NOT been found unconstitutional, thus, it IS valid law, wording notwithstanding.
