Nationals have broken ranks and voted in defiance of government policy – supporting a motion by the Liberal Democratic party Senator David Leyonhjelm that would have ended the current import ban on the controversial lever action Adler shotgun.

On Monday night, party senators Bridget McKenzie and John Williams crossed the floor to vote in favour of ending the import ban, and Nationals ministers Fiona Nash, Nigel Scullion and Matt Canavan were absent from the chamber during the critical vote.

I prefer a pump also. In shotgun as well as rifle. Remember Colt's 1884 Lightning rifle? Remember, nothings faster than Lightning. I have one, repro of course. As well as a repro 1873 Winchester.

But if a lever is all you can get because pumps are so fast and bad and evil just because . . ., well, you know. Go with levers to start.

This really isn't anything to get excited about; in fact it's bad news. It will be classified as a Category D firearm, meaning it will only been available to a select few. To give everyone an idea, in my state of 5 million people there's less than 10 people that hold such a license. It'll be legal in the same way it's 'legal' for me to own an AR-15 - technically I can, but it would be incredibly difficult and time-consuming.

So, it's confirmed. All lever-action shotguns, not just the Adler, will be moved to a higher category, and those that can hold more than 5 shells will be made Category D in all states and territories. The word is people who currently have them will be made to surrender them in an amnesty in the coming months.
