What I find a little hard to understand is how rule 14 is interpreted to disallow the discussion of long guns when it actually merely states that long gun carry is off-topic, and explains that OCDO doesn't support it as part of it's mission. There is a sub-forum specifically designated for topics not related to the mission of OCDO. Seems a little contradictory to specifically and explicitly designate open carry of long gun discussion as off-topic, have a section for off-topic discussion, and then say that you cannot discuss the open carry of long guns in the off-topic section and cite the rule classifying long gun open carry as off-topic for the reason that it can't be discussed in the off-topic section. Huh? At the very least, I think that rephrasing the rule is in order. Many people routinely handle/carry/use long guns for a variety of reasons - this is just not the place for those discussions. I see no rule change on the horizon.
(14) LONG GUN CARRY IS OFF-TOPIC: This web site is focused on the right to openly carry properly holstered handguns in daily American life. We do NOT promote the carry of long guns. Long guns are great! OCDO co-founders John & Mike and most of the members of this forum own at least one long gun - but due to urban area issues of muzzle control, lack of trigger guard coverage, and the fact that the long gun carry issue distracts from our main mission to promote the open carry of handguns in daily life, we will leave long gun carry activism in the capable hands of the future founders of web sites about long gun carry.
But really, lets stop beating around the bush with this issue. No excuses are needed here, they're just too easy to see past. You can talk strictly about open carry of properly holstered handguns, or you can talk about something completely and totally unrelated, but if you try to talk about something similar to the mission then you have to go somewhere else. No disrespect intended, but that just doesn't make any damn sense.
That being said, I respect the right of a forum administrator to make whatever rules they please. But just keep in mind that doesn't mean people won't realize that the rules are ridiculous and counter productive, no matter what justifications you make up.
