So I read on the summerfest website that weapons of any kind aren't allowed. Since when can carry be prohibited in an outdoor area? I was under the assumption that no weapon signs and rules only applied to buildings. Can anyone clarify this?

Wis. Stat. § 943.13(1m)(c)3.

If it's a "gated event" lasting less than 21 days they can prohibit carry. The same goes for State Fair, county fairs , etc..

The law looks like it's written a little screwy, like they could discriminate and tell one guy he has to leave while letting someone else who's carrying in.

I suppose that applies to the yum yum festival in Madison also. Gee we could carry in our county fairs till ACT35 rolled along

Does the Yum Yum Festival charge money to enter? If not, they can't prohibit carry.

On a side note, I've been to the state fair a few times since Act 35 and am always surprised they don't use metal detectors. They only briefly check your bag. Anyone can sneak in contraband. That makes me feel all safe knowing their "security" is just for show.

At large events like this they're more concerned with someone coming in with a pressure cooker bomb than a pocket pistol, hence the bag check.

Plus, of course, they want you paying $7 for a beer and not bringing your own in. ;)

I couldn't imagine how long it would take to get in if they had to wand everybody. Blah.
Haven't been to Bummerfest for many years. What are they doing at the gates there? Just posting?

I haven't been to over priced Summerfest since Act 35 became law, but I do believe they use the metal detector wands.

I do know they wand people for Bucks games and it doesn't take all that long, but I've only gone two 2 games since 2011 and neither were really packed.
