Noticed this announcement at Cabela's website:


Conceal & Carry: Weapons Permit Training Course
Certified instructors Paul Hoaglund and LeRoy Graham will cover the basics in achieving your concealed weapons permit. Through this course you will receive your concealed weapons certificate and the necessary knowledge for packing a handgun. Course cost is $60 cash only and preregistration is required. Class fills up quickly and space is limited. Sign up at our greeters desk.

I took this class. I should note that one of the 2 instructors was quite vocal about being against OC, briefly referring to an OC group in Idaho (must be this one) and saying that in this day and age it isn't safe and causes too many problems due to a lot of people's fear of firearms, concluding that CC is the only way you should be carrying your sidearm in public. Decided that the middle of the class wasn't the place I wanted to bring up my disagreement with those statements.

That being said, I did come away with a wealth of knowledge regarding the laws regarding CC and self-defense statutes, as well as learning better how and when to make the decision to draw my weapon in self-defense.

Tough call for me. Good class but have trouble supporting people/businesses that don't fully support our 2A rights in this state. Just my 2 cents.

Did you happen to get the instructors name? Maybe we could send him some info about why peopleneed to beOC'ing. In this day and age we need to OC to have people become more aware, and to learn to not be afraid of what they don't understand. Thats usually the reason people are afraid, whether it be guns, spiders or people.

He is certainly entitled to his personal opinion.

Much like I am entitled to mine, you yours, and so on.

Obviously, he's Pro-2A and that's the main thing.

Cabela's has NEVER given me a problem the dozen or so times when I was OC'ing there.

Agreed. Never had an issue carrying there either. I can see where he's coming from, I just happen to disagree. Like I said though, it was a good class.

This comment is exactly why firearms owners are viewed poorly and rights have been given away over the last 20 years. What he is saying is to appease those with irrational fears and just do what they want you to do. Perhaps he agrees with the Brady's that in this day and age it isn't safe to bring a firearm to Starbucks, even concealed. I find that the NRA and other's who have this view of capitulation are as big an enemy to gun owners as the Brady's.

This is pretty evident it is an AD placed by this company. I attended a class put on by Level 1 Firearms and Safety in Idaho a few weeks ago. It was an excellent class, small, and personal.

I am a bit confused about the title of this post

what kind of class would a concealed carry weapon take? what exactly can you teach an inanimate obect like a Concealed Carry weapon?

The OP explained that the class information was found on Cabela's website, so I'm not sure it was placed by the company. Usually, spammers just come in, unload about their services (few actually take the time to give a small backstory), and are never heard from again.

Also, the thread was almost four years dead.
