Any idea of the carry rules at Churchill Downs?

I'll be going to a Reunion there in May. I carry concealed and would like to know
what if any restrictions they have.

"Churchill Downs is a privately owned facility and may refuse the admission of any patron for any reason, including failure to abide by its admission policy. All patrons are subject to a search of their person, packages and containers during admission. Patrons have the right to refuse to be searched, but they will not be allowed admission if they do not consent to the admission search or if they attempt to enter with any item not permitted by Churchill Downs. The admission fee of any patron who does not wish to be searched or comply with this admission policy will be refunded."

"The following items may not be brought onto the premises: weapons (including concealed weapons), umbrellas are prohibited on Oaks, Derby and Breeders’ Cup days, missiles (or any item which may be used as such), thermoses, backpacks, luggage, duffel bags, wagons, balloons, grills, charcoal, glass, tents, alcohol or any substance which is prohibited by Kentucky or Federal Law. Attempts to bring them onto the premises will result in confiscation or refusal of access to the premises. This list is illustrative only. Other items may be prohibited as a condition of admission."

Really nice comments. Are you so hung up on open carry that you have to piss off people who do both!
Some places are simply not appropriate for open carry.

Lets piss off the guy asking an honest question on a site that has a lot of knowledge
and hope he doesn't come back to share his experiences.

I, for one, am glad you're here. I hope you stay. You'll probably be happier, though, if you don't take every comment here personally.

Based on the number of folks who come here looking for information about things that are not directly related to Open Carrying (ranging from "Why was I denied when trying to purchase a firearm?" to "What are the rules about CCing at ___?" OCDO seems to have developed a reputation as a place where correct and useful information can be obtained.

Of course I wish the CCers/NoCers would see the light and convert but as long as they remain polite and do not troll I'm happy to be part of a place that folks appear to respect and trust. Think about it - our correspondent had the option of uncounted scads of CC-specific sites to go to and post his query. But he chose oCDO.

And yes, I have in the past (and most likely will in the future) remind folks coming to OCDO with questions about CC that the site is dedicated to open carrying - and then offer what I can to help guide them to an accurate answer to their CC-specific question.

This is only related in a very distant way, but people here are big-picture thinkers, so why not? Several years ago the city of Louisville passed a pretty strict "no smoking" law. They tried to sneak in ONE and only one exemption: Churchill Down racetrack. (No grandfathering for tobacco shops, etc. Just the big $$$$$$$ track.)

Long story short that was not well received by the courts when challenged, the original ordinance had to be struck down and the whole thing rebooted.

I'm not trying to veer off topic, like I said those of you here who are pretty swift on the uptake legal-eagle wise probably aren't surprised by that bit of legislative chicanery.

Calm down Sensitive Sally. Most new guys get a little hassle thrown their way just to see what they are all about. You.....very thinned skin. But don't worry, if you stick around you will "thicken up." As far as that "lot of knowledge" and experiences that you have, we're all ears and we'd love to hear them. After all, that's how we learn.

Since I'll be in Louisville in a few weeks, I'm checking up on any possible changes since my last trip, about 8 years ago. One interesting thing I noticed is that while "weapons (including knives)" are on the special expanded rules list for Derby and Oaks days (much larger attendance), there is no mention of firearms, or any type of weapons prohibition in the general information.

I'd be surprised, but I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that they possibly allow legally carried firearms during non-peak times?

No. Firearms fall into the general category of "weapons".

As I noted, there is NO (none, ZERO) mention of any type of weapons prohibitions , **EXCEPT** on Derby and Oaks days.
