I'm not sure how long you've been a member WW. (I forgot to look before hitting "reply with quote.")

HankT has been pretty scarce for a long while, but once upon a time he lived here daily. And, there was strife pretty much where ever he went on the forum. So much so that one can not unreasonably suspect he enjoys stirring up trouble. I suspect he enjoys watching others fight.

One of his tactics back then was to post a news story about a gun use.

Then sit back and watch the arguments start.

News stories are notoriously short on details. Forum members made assumptions about the missing details without realizing it, then others would take exception. It wouldn't take long until an argument broke out. I finally figured it out and started warning people.

No. The misinformation cartels known as news media in this country are notorious for getting it wrong on so many levels.

I noticed this evening that media is forwarding lots of comments from anti-gun viewpoints, but so far, not one from anybody demanding an end to rendering victims defenseless.

One report, from a some sort of child expert gave a bunch of hogwash about comforting your child if they're scared because of what happened. The idiot finished her commentary by telling parents that they should definitely assure (her word) the upset child that he or she is safe. Lie, lie, lie.

So. What's new? Same old, same old from the self-appointed, psuedo-sophisticated guardians of right-thinking who pretend to be oh-so impartial.

+1 we'll never know IMO ... I think that even if shot with a 9mm in reality, the reports will be that it was a 223 round.

The only witnesses would be the small children who likely will have little recollection of the incident and/or would not know the difference.

The police don't want us to own ARs ... the liberals don't want us to own ARs so the press is going to be an arm of the government propaganda machine on this one..

Its a tragedy that children were killed but other children will grow up and be adults and it would be even a greater tragedy if their rights are erased by power hungry politicians trying to capitalize on such an event.

The point is that all the newsfaces have been saying that there was a "high-powered assault rifle"; the .223 Rem. Bushmaster is a target/varmint rifle.

The retired NYC cop on FOX last night was spouting that the Bushmaster was "fully automatic".???

The medical examiner would be putting his reputation on the line saying the victims were shot with the Busmaster - if that is not true.

Governmental officials - lying ???

AR/AK ban will have tremendous support IF this is true because people want to take out their anger over this tragedy - on something.......

Geraldo Rivera was also bad-mouthing the Glock, and Sig -referred to them has horribly violent dreadful weapons( that most LEO's carry).

I too find it odd that the Bushmaster wasn't stated as being the weapon used until as of late. Seems like if it was even in the room with him at the time of discovery there would have been a massive outcry by the media immediately.

I am almost to the point of getting my tin foil out over this. Too many things going on that don't add up.

Almost like the Portland mall didn't get the desired results so anther tragedy was needed.

If he had used a pointed stick would it matter what type of wood? Of course not, the act was not committed by the firearms, it was committed by a deranged individual.

The appearance of impropriety is indeed strong. Going from "didn't have rifle" to "only used rifle" is suspicious. The media is anti-gun, they wouldn't have reported "rifle in trunk" unless they were told that. If they were inventing the story they'd have been saying he used an "evil assault weapon" from the very beginning.

I'm pretty sure that Bushmaster AR-15 rifles are 5.56mm, not .223. Yes I know that a rifle chambered for 5.56 can handle .223 ammunition, but that is not its caliber designation. My guess is that the guy had loaded the rifle with .223 and that is why that caliber came out in the news.
