Harassed by a purported federal agent

If someone ever claims to be a 'federal agent' or other law enforcement type, either directly or indirectly, demand to see their ID or badge. The conversation (your side at least) should stop right there until he produces it.

A legitimate Federal Agent or police officer of any type will honor your request, and for most it's a departmental rule that they do.

If he refuses, and you have a witness who can back up your claim that he was representing himself as some sort of federal agent, immediately call the police. Do it right while he's standing there, do not pass GO do not collect $200, call the police. If he leaves follow him and get his tag number for the police.

That will make any suggestions about what to show him, discuss or debate with him, or accept harassment from him moot.
