Help with a .22LR for a newbie

Hi all, new to guns and shooting, but already addicted

I'm trying to decide between two .22LRs and would like some advice.

In the future, we may become interested in shooting on a league (I'm not sure if that's competitive shooting or not), so we'd like to buy a gun with that in mind.

And, actually, I'm buying two guns, as I've discovered shooting .45 and 9mm ammo is quite expensive, so that's why I'm getting the .22s.

First gun is going to be the Ruger Mark III KMKIII 512 or the MKIII 512 if I can find one locally. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to buy two of them right now (depending on price, if I find the MKIII512 local, I may be able to just get two of those, but I haven't yet had luck finding even one of them local), so for the 2nd gun, I'm looking at either a Beretta U22 Neo or a S&W 22A. (Hubby is getting the Ruger for his birthday present, the other will be mine, I've held all of them and am happy with how they hold)

Does anyone have any advice as to which would be the better gun with an eye for target shooting in the future? At this particular point in time, I'd prefer it be able to shoot the el cheapo ammo, if at all possible, since that's the biggest reason I'm buying .22LRs right now.

My 22LR target pistol is the Ruger and those are great! You might want to think about holding off until you can get another Ruger

Having said that, I do not personally own either of the others you mentioned, but I have a friend who has a Neo and really likes it (FWIW).

Well, I got the Ruger KMKIII512 and I also got the Neos. I compared the Neos to the Browning Buckmark Camper, and the Beretta was cheaper, came with an extra magazine, and is ready for a red dot scope when I get to that point. One of the guys in the store shoots his Neos on league, so I'm happy with it. Now for hubby to decide which is his. I actually think I hope he picks the Ruger, because I really like the Neos after playing with them both side to side. The only thing "bad" they said about the Neos was to stick with high velocity ammo.

Try a 22 conversion kit for a standard firearm. This allows you to practice with the regular trigger pull and use your regular holster.

I liked my AA 22 for my Glock so much, I purchased another Glock just to permanently mount it. The original slide only has 100 rounds through it!

Which model Glock did you purchase for "full time" .22 duty ? I think the 17 or 19 would be a good choice.

I use Glock 19's. I prefer that everything is identical, especially the trigger.

So did the hubby make a decision?

Jason, he picked the Neos, LOL. He's actually said I can have withever I choose, but the first time we took them to the range,w e each found our gun. He's more accurate with the Neos and I am with the Ruger. I still like the fit of the Neos better in my hand, but I'm getting used to the Ruger. I hate where the clip release is, though, the way the Neos has it is awesome! I suspect I'll end up ordering the Hoque grips soon, but I saw some pink Mark II grips on eBay, hubby thinks it'd be cute if I got those for my gun. I'm hopefully more grips for the Mark III will be out soon and I can find something to personalize my gun. I did end up getting us each a BSA red dot. Hubby tried his out at the range Friday, since the darned rear sight screw on the Neos has already vanished, and he didn't care for the scope at all. I haven't tried mine out yet.
