There has been a discussion in here about open carry and walking into an Alsups. Used to be you could go into a store that sold alcohol for consumption off sight. The rule was, no round in the chamber, and the magazine had to be removed from the gun. Wheel pistols had to have the cylinder empty. I kept reading, all of the very strong statements NO OPEN CARRY IN A STORE THAT SELLS ALCOHOL. Now I'm scratching my head because I can no longer find the law that stated you can. WHY? Because it doesn't exist any more. It was kind of frustrating because I had to do some digging, and it comes down to one simple statement. I'll abridge it. The laws says, "DON'T" This is all you need to know. Here is the crux of the matter. The laws on guns and how you can or can't carry them can change with a simple signature and it may go unnoticed until you find yourself in trouble. I have stated several times. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Not knowing it will get you in trouble. So even if you believe you know the laws, it might not be a bad idea to double check. This is why I like forums like this. Even if you don't participate you can keep up on current laws. Not to mention you can find out other interesting facts and practices that do or don't work and how to keep out of trouble.

so tom, did you go out and check the laws & statutes before you left this morning? the nice LEs across this country have no idea what their respective statutes state and rely on their radio or consensus either during or after the fact on what to charge a citizen!

are you well versed in the all nuances of the gaming statutes or are their gray areas you wing as you go?

I have found it important and very useful to check handgunlaw.us every time I teach a firearms class to make certain I am providing the very latest in how a given state's firearms laws may have changed. I have been impressed with that website because they seemingly stay abreast of changes week by week. It's probably the most current website on the internet.

In gaming it's pretty cut and dry. We have policy and procedures that we follow and for the most part we don't run into anything that isn't covered by Policy and Procedure. If we do run into something that isn't covered the rule of thumb it so default on the side of the customer, unless it is an obvious violation of the law or it is a matter of safety. So unless you have a new cheating device or scam, or you have stolen someone's players club card and pn. or you are handing out Counterfeits of any kind then don't expect to see us.

Something I discovered a long time ago, Your arms are too short to box with the police. If you find yourself in a situation where the police want to be right. The best thing to do is let them be right then fight them in a court of law. If the law is on your side then they really don't have a leg to stand on. Fight them, argue with them then suddenly it's "Public Affray, Disorderly, failure to follow a lawful order-- you get the picture. Arguing with the police in the field is not only stupid it could mount up all kinds of charges. I have seen it happen. Let your lawyer do the talking. Cops are people too, they make stupid mistakes. Sometimes the best thing to do is become passive. From 40 years of carrying I can tell you one thing that every boss and supervisor has told me. If you find yourself up against a cop stop talking. Don't be slick and try to become a lawyer. Just shut the hell up and let them do what they plan on doing. The more you talk the more they will dig. If you don't talk there is nothing they can get out of you or use against you later. Ask for a lawyer and every time they start talking tell them "I don't answer questions. And I want a lawyer." The best way to avoid conflicts with the police is not to start something. Like challenge the law by walking into a police department with a loaded weapon or strap on an AK-47 wearing BDU's and a bandanna just to give a cop a hard time when they start asking questions. And believe me if a Cop gets a call they are going to stop and talk to you. They have to. So make life easy for them give them your name so they can satisfy themselves that you are not a threat. Or you can fight them and right or wrong you will end up in jail. Me I've walked around for 40 some years with rifles and pistols and no one has so much as look up. But then I didn't try to make myself look like a radical Islamism on a mission for Allah. One of these days I really am going to have to write a book "Crime for Dummies."
