Was at Woodman's tonight (OCing of course), when a young man ID himself as store security asked if I had a badge.
He also mentioned that he was going to be a police officer very soon. He's waiting for his background checks to clear then he will be deputized in Mauston.
I informed him that I didn't need a badge because what I was doing was allowed in Wisconsin. (open carrying)
He said that since the store sold Beer Open carrying was against the law.
I said that I had talked with "Tom" (manager) earlier and that he had no issue with people that opened carry.
I also mentioned that I didn't know that Woodman's had a Class B liquor license, and told him that I didn't think that they did. Because if they did I'd be able to consume beer within the store. (he said that I couldn't)
He proceeded to tell me that he read up on the law and that what I was doing was against the law, and that Woodman's is in the process of getting signs made up to prohibit firearms in all Woodman's stores.
I told him that I didn't see any signs and that perhaps we should talk to the manager about the if it was alright for me to be carrying (OC) in the store.
He stated that it wouldn't be necessary (talking to Tom the manager) and that I was alright. (carrying )
I explained to him that the law did not prohibit me from carrying in Woodman's because they didn't have a Class B license, and that the Woodman's corporate office issued a letter stating that OC in their stores was OK.
He thanked me for the education and left saying that he was going to do some more reading about Carrying in Woodman's.
