British Doctors Call for Ban on Long Kitchen Knives to End Stabbings

Violent crimes haven’t gone away with the UK’s gun control. They’ve actually gone up.

Britons suffer 1,158,957 violent crimes per year, which works out at 2,034 per 100,000 residents. The U.S., meanwhile, has a rate of 466 crimes per 100,000 residents, which is lower than France’s, at 504

Instead of gun crime, the UK worries about knife crime. And has been practicing knife control.

The UK outlawed the switchblade and gravity knife in 1959.

In 1988 possession of a pocket knife with a blade larger than 3 inches in public became illegal.

In 1996, it became illegal to sell a razor blade to anyone under the age of 16.

In 2007, you needed a license to be able to sell “non-domestic knives.”

Despite all that knifepoint robberies rose by 10 percent this year and there are some 60,000 stabbings each year. So the push is on to outlaw long kitchen knives. Once that’s done, surely utopia will be at hand.

Well, since Utopia was written by a former Chancellor of England (Thomas More), you'd think utopia is just around the corner. Ban kitchen knives, and pull the UK out of the EU, and everything will be perfect.

You don't suppose it has anything to do with their reliance on a constituional monarchy, do you?

She's a constitutional monarch with only a tiny bit of political power--she opens parliament and gives it some direction in her opening speech.

This goes back to before Victoria if I recall--the monarchy was pushed into near irrelevance.

Otherwise, the entirety of the government derives its so-called legitimacy from her so-called sovereignty.

Our government claims its legitimacy from consent of the governed. Its really just a minor difference--they're both lies.

Anyone who thinks UK is safe can role by my neck of the woods and see petrol bombs going off in the street along with violent riots which involve petrol bombs and civies clashing with PSNI. Just disgusting how these politicians can make laws about how to make bad areas (*COUGH*Belfast*COUGH*) safer when they haven't even been to a bad part of the UK. Sickening!

take away the knives and they'll just find something else.

A pint glass or a beer bottle, broken first against the corner of a brick wall, can do a lot of damage when pushed into someone's face. Glasses or bottles were also smashed on the victim's head with similar results. Admittedly, most of those assaults were fueled by alcohol but my point is removing one possible weapon just means another will be found to replace it

Spooner makes a compelling argument that this was first accomplished by the signing of the Magna Carta, which effectively stripped the monarch of any power to enforce any law.
