The pre-emption law has been in effect for 4+ months now, but Nevada (yes, I did notice ;)) was promoted on Monday (maybe it was Tuesday) of this week. Not sure what, if anything, happened between October 2007 and the time Nevada was promoted, but I wont ask questions about being a Gold Star state :p

I'm optimistic, but cautious. Boulder City, North Las Vegas, and recently brought up in discussion, Virginia City, all have laws on the books (whether legal or not) in some way illegally denying our rights.

So, I'll wear my gold star with pride, but want to caution my friends here that those places may still arrest you for OC (in NLV, Car carry is denied, not OC).

Keep us updated on dates and locations for the open carry day in Virginia City. My wife and I may join you if we're available. Our summer is booking up fast though.

I've lived in Vegas now for almost 2 years and OC for a year now and know about the OC laws here.

But what does it mean to be a "Gold Star State"?

ie; we are not required to register fire arms, we can CC without permit???

I would love to know...Please set me str8. Thanks

Gold Star Open Carry State is defiend as the following by opencarry.org: (see this by clicking the 'Gold Star Open Carry State' key entry at the bottom right of the map on the front page of opencarry.org)

"Fully preempted open carry permitted on foot and in vehicles without a licence; localities fully preempted"

Meaning unless its prohibited by state law, you can open carry anywhere. The limit to this is Nevada's tresspassing laws. While it may be legal to carry inside a building, the owners or an authorized representative of the building or property owners, or people leasing the building, may ask you to leave at their discretion. Failing to do so will result in the police being called, most likely.

mrFREEZE, Iv'e always OC'd in NLV with no problems. I was told by LEO up there that OC-ing has been allowed in NLV, it's when you carry in the car you can't have it openly laid out on the seat/floor/dash...ect. It's got to be out of sight or in a holster on your hip.

That law is now also preempted. NLV's municipal code 9.32.080 is now void.
