NH House votes to repeal stand your ground law

The bill passed the house by a close vote of 189-184. Hopefully the right leaning senate will strike it down.

The bill passed the house by a close vote of 189-184. I think it'll be smooth sailing through the senate and governor's desk. I believe the senate is left leaning more so than the NH house.

The Senate is NOT as left-leaning as the house. It's 11 dems and 13 repubs. The house stands right now at 221 dems and 179 repubs. The chatter coming out of Concord is suggesting this bill is DOA in the Senate by a party line vote.

All that happened is some filth in the House has identified itself for voters to see. They will lose their seats in the next election.

This same House also voted today to kill constitutional carry (HB 451) by a 226-144 vote, so it looks like some repubs also need to lose their seats. Disgusting.

David Boutin may not vote party lines. He helped kill const. carry last term....

But he voted yea to override Lynch's veto on SB-88, which is the basis for the whole SYG framework. The civil immunity, the redefinition of deadly force (display is not deadly force), and the elimination of the duty to retreat.

There is now chit-chat about at least one dem in the Senate not voting yes, so it is looking much better for us. It is always much harder to take something away once it has been given, and this is one of those situations.

We have to keep the pressure up, and make sure our Senators know where we stand on this. Call them, email them. It's not over until this bill is killed, and then we have to wait for the pendulum swing to go back to the right again (after the house-cleaning next election (pun intended)).

Maybe I'm missing something or maybe "constitutional carry" is being used incorrectly, but if NH has constitutional carry as in your State Constitution then how can any bill change that? The Constitution would have to be amended to be legit.

The bill appears headed for either a shelf-job in the Senate, if not an up front defeat. We just had a court case that resulted in an acquittal that could have been a conviction under the law previous to the passage of the SYG infrastructure.

If SYG was not law in NH it would have fallen under the previous definition of display constituting deadly force, and could have made the individual in question a felon. With SYG the individual was not convicted, and nobody was shot. Win-Win.

Update on progress of this "bill" in the New Hampshire Senate

As of May 10, the bill was destroyed in Senate committee by a 4-1 vote, and is now listed as "inexpedient to legislate" on http://legiscan.com/NH/bill/HB135

Votes to kill this bill were from:

Bette Lasky (Democrat), Sharon Carson (Republican), David Boutin (Republican), Sam Cataldo (Republican)

Votes to pass the bill were from:

Donna Soucy (Democrat)

The "final" disposition of this bill in the New Hampshire Senate

On 5/23 it was "tabled" by a 19-5 vote. This effectively should kill the bill for this session.
