Security Guard accidentally shoots worker at Weston, Florida, Sagemont private school

After a 2018 shooting at a Florida high school left 17 dead, the Legislature passed a law requiring all public schools to have an armed police officer, guard or other employee on campus at all times. Private schools are not covered by that law, but many have armed security.

Assistant Broward Public Defender Hector Romero said Suarez was not authorized to have the gun at Sagemont School, a private K-12 school, but was scheduled to work a shift later at another school where he was authorized to carry a gun.
