I realize that whether or not we must produce ID when asked by LEO has been discussed in great depth here. I am of the opinion that KC is the only place in MO where there is specific statue requiring it. With that said, a question has occurred to me. It is my understanding that if I am a passenger in vehicle and it is pulled over for a traffic stop, that the officer may legally demand I provide an ID. I am not at the time exercising the privilege that a driver's license allows, but must, if I have it on me, turn over the ID. My question is, does this not set a precedent that I must present ID when demanded during other instances where I am not "driving", such as when walking down the street? Am I wrong about having to show a driver's license when just a passenger or is actually stated that I must provide it upon demand simply for being in a physically in a vehicle. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
