Some Republican State Representatives have taken it upon themselves to reassure the people of Kentucky that these bills will never pass, but as we've seen in the past, these reassurances often simply lead to complacency by the voters. State Representative Savannah Maddox wrote on Facebook earlier today:

They TRY every year and will continue to TRY next year and every year after that. It means nothing more than that it is almost a new year in Frankfort. There are bad things that could possibly happen. I recommend we expend our efforts on real problems that could actually happen and real solutions that could accomplish something. In my opinion, these things are just distractions to occupy our efforts while real problems go ahead unnoticed. We expend so much energy fighting against things that will never happen that we don't advance our own agenda. When April comes around we will all congratulate one another that we have stopped a great threat when, in fact, we have done nothing because there was no threat. The Charles Bookers , the George Browns and the Jeffery Donahues do not have enough support to move these Bill's forward. If we are going to panic at the very sight of a prefilled bill, we will be in a panic every year because they will always be there. As long as conservatives hold large majorities in both chambers, there is no chance of these things passing. Virginia was safe until the Dems took control of their government. We are a long way from that.

So, I'm more or less worrying about nothing. I haven't lived in Kentucky that long to come into contact with all of this, but I'm learning the in's and out's of what's going on here. I really started paying attention when SB 150 came around, so I have a lot of catching up to do. So thanks for the heads up and the easing of my worries. I'm not going to drop my guard, but I also won't worry about it to where I'll loose sleep over it. If it really does get serious, I think I'll know about it. :)

I really get sick of people who push " conservatives " as the only pro gun political entities in this state.

The Republicans only gained control of the ky legislature in 2016. Hadn't had it since 1920.

Yet ky was a heavily pro gun state and very gun friendly long before 2016. Under democratic control.

Now yep we have republican control. Along with Hornblower and his GOP sidekick pushing redflag in this state.

It's the person in office in this state , not the party.

The democrats of today are different "persons" than the ones we had before.
Of course, there are still democrats that are gun friendly but they seldom run for office and are seldom nominated to run for office. The democrats that are elected are elected by the "Moms demand action" types. Why is it that most of those districts are in Jefferson and Fayette Counties?

Just check the votes on the constitutional carry bill
Senate voted 29 to 8. 26 of the 29 yes votes were republicans and 5 of the 8 No votes were democrats. Of the 3 republicans that voted "NO" two were from Jefferson or Fayette Co. Do you think it could have passed with a democrat majority? Ridiculous.

Vote in the House was 60 to 37, again almost completely along party lines. The democrats in Louisville and Lexington are anti gun. The democrats they send to Frankfort are anti gun. The democrats in the rest of the state don't matter because there are not enough left to allow them to send anybody to Frankfort.

Really. We have had a pro gun Dem senator in office for many years now. Maybe she should come home since you say nobody but Louisville and Lexington districts count.

Honestly I dont believe you made that statement . Especially with republicans backing red flag in your district.

Ky was pro gun under Dem control for what? 90 yrs?

Yes Robin Webb is an excellent Senator and can always be counted on for a pro-gun vote. One Senator doesn't make the whole party gun friendly. Sen. Webb is outnumbered 10 to 1 by the anti gun dems. After you mention her name the list gets very short.

You never have explained that vote on constitutional carry. Where were all those pro-gun dems that day. Even Rocky Adkins voted NO.
The dems are irrelevant, especially in the Senate. There are only eight of them. You have only been able to point to one as being pro-gun
That is quite a load for one Senator to carry.

My point was that republicans didnt control diddly for almost 100 yrs. Yet ky remained one of the top 6 or 7 gun friendly states in the nation.

Yet now at present we have Republicans pushing Red flag laws in this state.

There are always a few Dems that propose some ludicrous bill they know wont pass. Heck a few times they have voted against their own bill.
What one doesn't expect is anti gun Republicans .

And why is it that we don't expect that? Could it be that we expect them to be and have generally found them to be very pro 2A? Which was my original comment on this subject.

More likely we dont expect it because they are rarely in power in the state long enough to do much. Kinda like Biven. But when they do we get anti gun law proposals hidden in such things as red flag in an effort to circumvent the ky constitution.
Ky has been historically Democrat controlled and stayed gun friendly. You know this same as everyone else.

It stays gun friendly because no matter who is put in office they know gun control is a ticket out of office.
Rocky is a good example that you pointed out. Andy has already guaranteed himself to be a one term gov by supporting red flag.

Unisex public bathrooms have been around in Europe for more than 50 years that I know of. Heck, your bathroom in your house is unisex. I have been to Bengals football games where the women over take the men's restrooms making them unofficial unisex bathrooms. With that said, unisex bathrooms really are not an issue. But the Second Amendment is a Constitutional issue. Apples and oranges.

Here is a comment made by Republican State Representative Mark Hart at the meeting of the Pendleton County Fiscal Court where they discussed a 2A Sanctuary Resolution.

From Representative Mark Hart:

I want to thank everyone for coming out to the court meeting today and supporting the passage of Pendleton County's Resolution Declaring Pendleton County a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary County. I am very proud to endorse and support this action. I was humbled by the outpouring of support for the 2nd Amendment and our constitution. Grassroots efforts like this send a powerful message to your state and congressional lawmakers and as a State Lawmaker I hear you loud and clear. I will always fight to support NO INFRINGEMENT OF ANY TYPE ON YOUR 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHT!
...
as has been my consistent position since being elected I oppose all legislation that infringes on your 2nd Amendment Rights, that includes Red Flag Laws. The 2nd Amendment doesn't give us the right to bear arms it protects that right!

I'd enjoy reading any statement on this subject from a current democrat member of the General Assembly.

I'd like to say this one more time; None of the gun control bills currently filed will pass this year. No Red Flag law will pass this year. This is not a guess on my part or an opinion. I have received assurances from enough republicans to stop anything like that. There are lots of republicans that I have not talked to yet. Some of them will feel the same way. In fact, I think most of them will feel that way.

Anybody that tells you differently does not know what they are talking about. There is no desire for any gun control in Frankfort, except from a few democrats.

And your rep Hornback with his red flag law.
A republican.

My point was ,which you missed as usual, is that regardless which camp has been in power , gun control is political death in ky.

And the politicians know it. Always have.

Barring something unforeseen I'll be at the Carter Co fiscal court meeting this month to try to get not a resolution but an 2A sanctuary ordinance passed.

Other than Jefferson county and Lexinton , No dem gov or legislator would dare try what is happening in VA.
Ky doesn't have the influx of snowflake libs that VA does from the north.
